Lightning constantly freezes interfering with e-mail. Trying to edit or add new events or compose in e-mail is a nightmare. Can it be fixed?

Thunderbird 60.8.0 -- Trying to edit or add new events or compose in e-mail is a nightmare. No problem when I disable ALL add-ons completely. E-mail works great as long as all add-ons are disabled, especially Lightning. I have Windows 8.1.
