Why is firefox much slower than chrome on the same Mac?

I got the impression that firefox was slower than chrome so i did a speed test.

Chrome result 315 down / 36 up Firefox 183 down / 36 up.

I used the same speedtest server for both. This is consistently repeatable. What is the possible cause? Can I change some settings?

I think you can do a refresh to get back the power of the browser
