Hi,

i user thunderbird to manage several email accounts. I would like to know how to backup all emails sent / received with their relative attachements ? i already know how to split/archive sent and received emails per year, so i would liketo know how to backup (maybe compress also) all emails ?

Basically i was not able to backup attachements with their relative emails, so i can later on, reimport emails and attachement on another computer or in case of computer crash.

Maybe a plugin could do it. I have thousands of emails and i do not want to loose it.

thx

Hi Alain,

the best way to backup your email is to backup your profile folder. You can find more information on this topic in this knowledge base article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data

Once you've located your profile folder you can set up a backup software of your own choosing to backup the folder regularly.

The article also contains information on how to restore the profile folder into a new profile.

It is also possible to backup individual emails. You can select or multi-select (by using your shift- or ctrl-key) emails, right-click them and save them to a folder. These emails will be save in an universal .eml-Format which can be displayed not only by Thunderbird but also by Outlook and other email clients.

Please contact us, if you have any further questions.

maybe i should have told that i'm under Ubuntu and i do want to copy the default profile folder. This is not the way i want to do this backup, as i want to backup each profile, per year and integrating the accountt structure / folders and subfolders from thunderbird email account.
