email tags are being removed (not sticking) when moving an email from one folder to another. How do I stop this so tags remain on an email?

until recently, tags have always stuck with an email when moving from the inbox folder to other folders were I retain email for long term storage. I am not sure what happened or why, but now all of the sudden, none of the tags are "sticking" with the email. can someone please help me. thanks.
