Aside from needing more RAM, I see that a first step is to refresh Firefox. I see it saves quite a bit, but I don't know what I'll be losing.......it says I will lose These items and settings will be removed:

   Extensions and themes
   Website permissions
   Modified preferences
   Added search engines
   DOM storage
   Security certificate and device settings
   Download actions
   Toolbar customizations
   User styles

I don't know what DOM storage is, and if I don't have a security certificate, is that what allows me to go to sites ? I'm hesitant to refresh 'blindly' and then learn afterwards that some crucial changes were made on the refresh and now I can't visit sites I presently can

Refreshing Firefox {web link} is a LAST RESORT ! !

Refreshing Firefox -- easily fix most problems

If you're having problems with Firefox, refreshing it can help. The refresh feature fixes many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information like bookmarks and open tabs. Everything else, like user settings and add-ons, are removed.

I see user settings/add ons, but security certificates, if they are removed does that NOT allow me to visit any number of sites ? and DOM storage, what are the consequences of removing that ? and thank you for the headsup re personal info.....I edited it

and I am confused.... Refreshing Firefox is boldly listed as last resort but then the next line says Refresh resolves many problems.....is the "last resort' an indicator that you are recommended other means of remedying, like increased RAM .....I was told by a tech guy at Norton that before getting more RAM, the refresh could take care of the 'hanging' and he does it every week...so I am a bit confused

The job of refresh is to remove everything. This is because something may be wrong with the profile.

Only bookmarks, passwords and such are saved to a new profile. The old profile is moved to the desktop in a folder called; Old Firefox. This way one can recover wanted data.
