If you right-click the link do you get an option to open it or copy it?

Are there any adjacent characters that perhaps are not part of the address? (I recall arguing with one user that if he wanted to mention an URL in an email message, he had to leave a space after it. He refuted this, saying that if he wanted to put a dash after it, that was his business and it ought to "just work". He would not accept that the dash would appear to be part of the URL and so it was no longer valid.)

Can you just select the link (drag the mouse over it) then copy and paste into your browser?

The sender may be using some clever scripted thing that simply isn't going to work in Thunderbird, because Thunderbird won't execute scripts in email messages.

Have you tried accessing the link in your webmail? Go to your email provider's website, and login to your email there. In a browser environment, there's a higher likelihood of scripting being able to work.

Please look at image below.

1. Highlight the http link - make sure you only highlight the link and not any additional spaces.

2. Right click on the highlighted link to get more options 3. click on 'copy' 4. Right click in the browser address bar and select 'Paste' from the options. 5. Press the 'return/Enter' key on keyboard.

I had this problem recently too. I could not open email links nor would Google Desktop (which I still use and love on Win7) open a browser window.

I solved the problem by updating Firefox from 40 to 41 (Help > About).

My inability to open email was especially a problem in the case when , as in the case of the OP (or QO), the link was from an image. With plain links right clicking gave me the option to copy the URL. In the case when the link was from an image, clicking on copy as recommended by Toad-Hall copied the image and not the link.

Firefox updates so often than I have turned off auto updating and just wait till have problems like this. Thanks to Firefox and to Toad-Hall for their kind work.
