Why doesn't my "Show windows and tabs from last time" work?

Hello all,

I used to have my settings set to "Show windows and tabs from last time". For some reason now, it doesn't work. Whenever I close my tabs, Firefox will warn me that I'm closing multiple tabs and when I reopen Firefox, I only get my homepage.

In the options menu, I've set the options to be "Show windows and tabs from last time" and in the Privacy setting, I have "Firefox will remember history", so I don't believe it's related to my settings.

I saw a thread about "browser.sessionstore.enabled" needs to be true in about:config, but I don't even have a Preference Name that says "browser.sessionstore.enabled". Perhaps that's the problem? If so, I have NO IDEA how to fix that. I'm not computer savvy at all.

If someone could find a solution to this really annoying problem, I'd be very grateful. If it takes a lot of programming/techie work, please be VERY descriptive (pretend I'm a 5 year old child in giving directions).

THANKS!

Chosen solution

browser.sessionstore.enabled is no longer being used, so do not worry if you can't find it.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

  • do not clear the Browsing History as that will prevent session restore from working.

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.

You can check browser.sessionstore.* prefs including browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash on the about:config page and reset browser.sessionstore prefs that are user set (bold) via the right-click context menu to the default value to make sure that Session Restore is enabled and working properly.

Oh, and also, in the history option, the "Restore previous session" option is completely blanked out.

Thank you, cor-el.

I wasn't using "Clear history when Firefox closes", but I think your reset of "browser.sessionstore" solution made it happen. I'm very happy to have my tabs/windows back.

Thanks again.
