Disable New Tab controls

To hide everything on the New Tab page, including the New Tab controls, follow these steps:

  1. In the address bar, type about:config and press EnterReturn.

    • The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!I accept the risk! to continue to the about:config page.
  2. Type browser.newtab.url in the search box.
  3. Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and change the URL from about:newtab to about:blank. Alternately, you can change it to about:home for your default home page, or your preferred home page by typing in its URL.
  4. Click OK and close the about:config tab.

To hide everything on the New Tab page, including the New Tab controls (or to choose the page that opens in a new tab) you can install the New Tab Override (browser.newtab.url replacement) add-on.
