Most "sent" and archived filed have disappeared

I opened my Thunderbird to find that most of my "Sent" messages and all of my archived files have vanished. There were two sent message left, form months ago. I sent at least 4 emails this morning. I looked at my email account through a webmail app and found them but I cannot search for them. As for archived makes I have no idea what has happened. I think I did an upgrade a few days ago. I looked at the questions and saw some users had similar problems over a year ago after an upgrade. Any help would really be appreciated.

Recipient auto complete going haywire, the list seems almost random

For a year and few months now, I think since the recipient dropdown started showing grey on some listed entries and white for others, thunderbird seems to be often selecting contacts based on some weird criteria that doesn't work well at all.

For example if I type in Julie, yes I see Julie down the suggested list at position 3 or 4, but positions 1 2 3 seem to be completely random selections from my contacts. Since this change happened I've been trying to be super careful with trusting the position 1 offering, which used to almost always be what I was after, but yesterday I sent and email to the wrong person because I didn't check.

If this is supposed to be some great new feature of tbird (which in itself is great), can someone tell me how to turn if off?

According to what I can find from Xfinity, my account settings are correct. I have also cleaned my caches.

Any help would be appreciated.

Suddenly today I was unable to use my email. I contacted 123 support and they were very helpful. I was told that I was using an old server and they took me through the process of reconfiguration. It appears that despite the fact that I entered imap.secureserver.net it switched to a POP3 account by the same name. I have been unable to receive emails since. I have removed the account and reinstalled it but I get the message seen in the screen shot below. It appears that I am unable to remove my profile. One option would be to uninstall Thunderbird but I will loose all my current and archived emails. Iunderstand that this is not an uncommon problem. What do I do?

can't delete old emails which are no longer readable - just garbage

I have isolated the bad emails in a directory but I can not delete them or move them. I can't delete the whole directory. When I try I get the message There is not enough… (ebele ya kotanga)

I have isolated the bad emails in a directory but I can not delete them or move them. I can't delete the whole directory. When I try I get the message There is not enough disk space for the operation attempted. You may need to perform a disk cleanup on your system. I have over 8GB so I don't think space is the problem. My guess is some pointers are off somewhere.

The directory doesn't even show up in my profile. How do I get rid of this directory?

hi, every few days we keep getting all of our emails come through witha picture on them , no writing or sender info this has been happening for months also no' from or to or subjest ' shown when the email is open -

there seems to be some kind of spam/virus that has ifiltrated all of our website incoming emails.....

please help with identifying and resolving the problem as we can't read customer emails or print orders!

we use several emails which come through on to the same inbox ,these are -


pretty sure the problem is affecting 2 emails

if reading these same emails on imap shown on windows mail we do not have a problem at all but we much prefer using thunderbird!!!!

please help!

I have a problem. Everyday thuderbird do "cataloging mailboxes" - i have 10 mailboxes and each day Thunderbird do this to random few mailboxes.

each few days he create new inboxx folder and copy to them mails - now i have 21 inboxes with duplicated mails.

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this complex problem?

I have three email accounts I access through Thunderbird. Two are hosted by the same server as my websites and one is a Yahoo account. I have been able to create subfolders on all of them for over a decade. Recently, however, I have been unable to. When I select the "New Subfolder," nothing happens. I do not get the dialog box that allows you to name it. Much of the issues that show up on the forums deal with not being able to see the new folder immediately and the solutions are usually restarting Thunderbird, but this does not fix my problem. I am unable to create the folder in the first place. I am also unable to rename existing folders.

This is a problem with all three accounts. I am able to access the email accounts through the dashboard of the website hosting company and created my new folders there. When I open Thunderbird they show up. So it would appear to be an issue with Thunderbird itself.

I am running 128.3.1esr (32-bit), which is the latest version.

Hi all,

Thunderbird keeps asking for authentication for account/server that is no longer in use or visible in account settings. I have tried to remove every trace of the account but the modal with authentication request keeps popping up.

At the same time a folder keeps getting created with the email mbox titled Retreat 2023_152728082023export. Some backstory, I use Thunderbird as my main mail client but sometimes use it to transfer emails from one webhost to another for clients.

I use the add-on for exports for this. However, this client transfer has been finished a while ago. The plugin for exports has been uninstalled and the account is not listed in the account settings page. Are there any other locations I need to check/remove the account from?

All help would be appreciated as currently I get this notification multiple times per hour and on every open.

I was working on figuring out an imap timeout problem (previous forum question) when I accidentally deleted the Inbox folder. No problem, I thought, cuze imap protocol will recreate that folder when thunderbird restarts. Problem is, it did, but after a period of time (10-15 mins) the Inbox and Trash (which I didn't delete) disappear. Nothing I do seems to recreate them. Message Synchronizing is on and Inbox & Trash are checked. Doesn't matter if unread emails are in there. When I restart thunderbird Inbox and Trash are back but then disappear.

I have relied on Thunderbird since Eudora bit the dust, but one aspect that has bugged me(apart from abandoning your beautiful old logo) is the necessity of going through s menu to insert a link. Today, however, when I clicked Insert link nothing happened excerpt that the program hung and I could get out of it only with the Escape key, so there was no way to inert a link. That is the first time it's happened, so I suppose it is a new bug. Please help.

When the Inbox is displayed and I delete one message, suddenly all the messages disappear. In their place is "No message found" even though the upper left of the screen shows that there are messages in the Inbox. All other folders also appear to have no messages.

The fix is to close and restart Thunderbird, and all messages re-appear. This happens at least once a day.

The program is running on Xubuntu 24.04.1. There are many message filters and the profile is around 7 GB.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion on how to fix. A screenshot is attached.

Unable to access TBird

Following a computer malfunction I lost AT&T email access. Their support restored access which required a password change. Unfortunately, it did restore access for T… (ebele ya kotanga)

Following a computer malfunction I lost AT&T email access. Their support restored access which required a password change. Unfortunately, it did restore access for Thunderbird. After several hours of trying various unsuccessful options I deleted and re-installed Tbird. Tbird required a password to access the AT&T server. I entered the AT&T Secure Key and received msg. that Tbird was installed. The Tbird display was exactly like the one I had before re-installing it. There were a few emails displayed along with the Contacts list. However I could not receive or send any emails. I tried entering the Secure Key and the new AT&T password to log in without success. Computer was turned off for the night. On restarting this A.M. the Tbird screen no longer displayed. In its place is the error msg. to check logs or run SXStrace (screen shot attached). Neither option is of any value to me since I do not know how to interpret the information in the log nor do I understand the SXStrace syntax.

      I am able to login to Tbird using  the Secure Key on a different computer.  Tbird will receive but not send emails. 
   I have checked the SMTP setting and it is correct.
