I have 8.1 and installed firefox as my browser so i can open my online banking. None of the search engines listed can do this. I thought Firefox was a search engine?

I still have windows 8.1. I do all my bill paying online. I can no longer open my banks website for online business. I thought Firefox had renewed support through 2026? Wasnt Firefox a search engine? The listed search s - none of them open banks etc.

Firefox is a web browser.

Search Engines When you submit a search in Firefox, it normally goes to Google but you can select Bing, DuckDuckGo, or a different one. More info if needed: Manage Firefox search settings.

Problem with Bank Website What problem are you having with your bank website? Is it telling you that you need to upgrade your browser? Or you aren't able to sign in because it loops around over and over? Or the pages are broken in some way? Please describe the problem in more detail.

In case the site wants you to use a new browser, that isn't actually possible for Firefox because you have the latest version for Windows 8.1. But you can set Firefox to lie to websites about what version you're running. Here's how:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste forceVersion and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the network.http.useragent.forceVersion preference to display an editing field, and change the value to 128 or 140 then press Enter/Return or click the blue check mark button to save the change.

If you try the bank site again in a new tab, does it still give you the same message, or does something else happen now?

Firefox 116.0 and later requires Windows 10, 11 to run.

However Mozilla is still supporting the EOL Windows 7, 8, 8.1 with Firefox 115 ESR (based on the old Firefox 115.0 release) currently at 115.30.0esr and planned for updates til 115.33.0esr next year unless Mozilla extends updates yet again. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-users-windows-7-8-and-81-moving-extended-support

Mozilla the makers of the Firefox web browsers does not have a search engine of their own.

Bank sites like Chase and Citi have recently made it so you need at least Firefox 128.0 or at least try and make them think you have Firefox 128.0 or later as suggested in reply above.
