When saving a web page and the "save" dialog has "text" as the pre-selected file type, firefox uses the default .htm extension instead of the usual .txt extension. If the pre-selected type is html and you select text, it correctly uses the .txt extension. This is only an issue when the dialog pops up with "text" as the already selected file type for the save.
