Hi! I use Thunderbird at home, but at work I have to use Outlook. This M$ sh... uses Ctrl-Q to mark emails as read. After a long day at work, I go home, sit down at my computer, and automatically keep pressing Ctrl-Q instead of R. I'm sure I'm not alone in having this problem. Could you please allow users to choose which hotkey exits Thunderbird, or at least disable the hotkey?

Hi, I had/have an IMAP account at my ISP Host, with TB connecting to.

There has been a number of occasions where I have used the Servers IMAP copy of emails as a back up, and from memory am sure that when connecting a fresh client, all emails/folders etc updated and down loaded from the server > client, in fact nothing got deleted on either side, and both sides synced.

My host (Fasthosts - I will name and shame) deleted my whole IMAP account by mistake.

They hastily re-instated just the package but all the emails had been wiped from the server.

I did though have a full copy of all emails on my TB IMAP client.

When I reconnected my client to the server after the re-instatement, i expected my clients emails to upload to the server, but instead they 'vanished' - and I have nothing but empty folders.

Am I able to recover any of these emails from my client, ie are they sitting in a file/folder still ??

TB has restarted a number of times since, and I fear the folder may have been compacted, but I cannot be sure.

Thoughts appreciated.

I'm using thunderbird 149.0.1. I'm trying to add a microsoft exchange account (@outlook.com). Using the account hub, after I entered the full name and email address and did the two-factor authorization, I'm stuck on the second screen (see attached). According to the instruction , I should not enter my account password in the first dialog box. However this is not possible since the password field is required. If I enter my account password in the password field, and leave the "Your login" part blank (or fill it with my email address), the window would complain "Exchange auth error" after I clicked continue. If I put a random string in the "Your login" field, clicking continue would lead me to a microsoft signin dialog, and if I sign in with my credential and password, the same "Exchange auth error" would still appear after I finished all the steps in the microsoft popup.

Il me dit que ce ne sont pas les bons alors que je verifie sur MOZILLA mon id et MP et tout semble correcte car je peux me connecter sans aucun problème. Pouvez-vous me dire d'où vient le problème, s'il vous plaît ?

Needed to edit an address. 2 problems: 1. somehow part of the address appears in the drop-down = home/work/mobile. How do I delete it? 2. edits are not saved (yes I have clicked save). Permissions all seem good.

Hello all After a Thunderbird update, a folder named "thunderbird" was created in my Personal folder. This folder is empty. After deleting the folder, it is recreated when Thunderbird is restarted. How do I get rid of this folder? Alternatively, what does this folder contain, and how can I move it to a different location?

I opened Thunderbird 140.9.1esr from flatpak on Debian 12 and today I noticed a message that says: "Flatpak ESR application ID change We're switching the Flatpak ESR application ID from org.mozilla.Thunderbird to org.mozilla.thunderbord_esr."

1. How does Thunderbird know it's flatpak name is changing? How do i turn off all auto updates including checking things like flatpak name changing?

I've successfully connected to a hosted Exchange server through EWS and NTLM authentication (kudos BTW). But there is a problem - often during operations against EWS I'm presented with "Login to account XXX failed" "Login to server YYY with account XXX failed". I can ignore it (cancel) and it will work for seconds or minutes but eventually reappear. Sometimes it's very frequent, sometimes is here and there. TL;DR; connection works, I can read directories and e-mails.

From looking at development tools I see these scenarios: 1. POST requests return 200 always (no messsage of course) 2. Eventually a POST would return 401. Then Thunderbird issues a GET, it returns 401 as well but response includes header WWW-Authenticate: NTLM XXXXXX. Then another GET is issued containing header "Authorization" with the value from previous response. This time it gets 200 and continues without POST requests without a dialog. 3. Sometimes there are more POST requests with 401 (I assume in parallel) before a GET is issued and then I see a dialog. Sometimes it recovers (regardless of whether I cancel or retry), sometimes gets stuck with 401 with dialog reappearing each time it tries something. This case it's similar in sense that thunderbird issues GET with 401 and WWW-Authenticate header, issues another GET with Authenticate header but still gets 401.

If I had to guess I'd say the problem happens when POST requests are issued in parallel, not sequentially. OTOH it might be a problem at the server, but it isn't very likely.

It would have been highly beneficial to provide a function or procedure to migrate all files (if they existed) from org.mozilla.Thunderbird to org.mozilla.thunderbird. In the absence of such a mechanism, the update effectively behaves like a fresh installation, creating the impression that all user settings and data have been lost.

I resolved the issue by manually copying all files from /home/USER_NAME/.var/app/org.mozilla.Thunderbird/ to /home/USER_NAME/.var/app/org.mozilla.thunderbird/ and restarting Thunderbird, after which everything functioned as expected. This could also have been addressed through a symbolic link to the new path.

I believe more care should be taken when implementing breaking changes of this nature, as many end-users would not know how to resolve this issue on their own. Clear guidance or automated migration would help prevent unnecessary disruption and confusion.

Had my computer recently setup linux mint with Thunderbird for my email access. I used the automatic setup to transfer across from Microsoft Hotmail/outlook system.

now all my emails -time sheets pay advice plus plus important emails are now being delivered automatically to deleted file. Not the inbox

I had a file callede archive where I would store all my previous timesheets pay advice these apart from previous month have been deleted - suspect its a automatic clean up after ex many days so thats lost permanently

How can I resolve this issue of the inbox going to deleted file/folder ?

So I have a list of folders some of which are the default folders some are custom created.

When I try to re-order these it is very hit or miss: I select a folder, drag it to where I want it to go, wait for the blue placement line to appear and it may or may not re-locate. Or I simply can't move the folder I want to move and so I move folders around it in order to achieve the layout I want.

It is as if success depends on whether Thunderbird is in the mood for a particular move to happen and I find it really frustrating. It should or shouldn't work, it shouldn't be that it works sometimes.

What is going on with this?

None of your "topics" addresses my issue at all. Where is your user manual? I'm trying to figure out how your "retention" works. Also how to get a message filter to run on a specific folder daily.

Using a new, clean install of Xubuntu 26.04, with thunderbird 140.10.2esr 64 bit, ubuntu snap build 1.0. In settings: play a sound when new message arrives, no sound is heard. When clicking "play" to test the sound, there is no sound. Also, if "use the following sound file" is checked, there is no sound when "play" is clicked. (I have tried various .wav and .mp3 files.) I have installed pipewire-alsa, but that didn't help. Any ideas?

This is absolutely insane. I set up a email account(also did about a year ago) and I can not get back to my mail. Why in gods name is it so difficult? I have multiple email accounts with most all the major email websites and this one is utterly impossible to use. I just keep ending up in the same spot with no information to help get out of the endless circle. I don't even know if I could find my way back to here. I will give you my email address to try and get something more constructive than the past two days. I want to make mozilla products my main users for all my different platforms to simplify my life but I am having my doubts about thunderbird. So far it is a useless time waster. I'm shocked that this is under the Mozilla name. I normally associate Mozilla with high quality, easy to use products. My goal is to have all the phones, tablets,laptops, and desktops operating on linux and mozilla. Thank you in advance. X@yahoo.com

In setting up a new PC (laptop), I must make my password known to the software. But I cannot remember my password. On my existing, older, laptop, I saved my email password long ago i.e. I do not have to enter my password, on the older laptop in order to get email. I no longer remember my own password. Threading - why does it keep coming back? I have just realised it's back again on my Thunderbird and I never knowingly turned it back on.

Why does Mozilla keep trying to force it on users?

This has been an annoyance for users for several years now and the message has still not got through it would seem.

For an open and user-facing organisation, this is strange behaviour that I just do not comprehend. Include it if you want, but make it optional and easily so.

I know this is only the community forum, not Mozilla, but one would think that a wise organisation would keep an eye on what their customers were saying & feeling.

Tags summary display has disappeared.

I can search for tags, but the convenient "tags folder" is gone. Please help.

Tried in safe mode with add-ons and toolbars/controls disabled. Error console is empty when assigning or removing tags.
