I have 4 email accounts setup in Thunderbird. When I turn my laptop on and open the program all the email accounts automatically expand(open to show their folders). I then have scroll up thru all the accounts and folders to get back to the top account. If I don't shut down or reboot they will stay closed or go back to what state they were in when last closed. If I reboot or turn on pc again they all expand.

I shut down and boot many times a day when moving around the office or on calls. So it kinda annoys me and slows me down. I cant seem to find a setting that fixes this if it is even possible. I want them to stay closed till I open them.

Thunderbird has an automatic session restore function, so by default on quitting (closing) Thunderbird the actual session status will be saved in the "session.json" file in the profile, and on the next launching of TB you should see the same UI, with the same tabs, the same active tabs, the same expanded or collapsed folders, the same selected message ......etc as before. This is the standard (default) behaviour which certainly can be modified by certain add-ons .... and a corrupt session.json file

Open your Thunderbird profile folder, the close TB. In the profile folder search for the file session session.json and delete it. Restart TB, choose your account folders to be collapsed. Close and restart TB to verify if your choices have been memorised by TB

I had not realized that under updates automatic was not selected so I was a few updates behind. when I looked thru my update history my last update was from OCT 2023!!

Once I selected automatic and it updated to 128.11.1 all was fine in the world. Thanks for the help and response.
