When I download email messages containing pictures, all I get is a link to the picture. Is there someway to see the pics in my email rather than just the links?

That would depend on your settings for the display of remote content and the incoming mail having compliant links. I have no trouble with images in mail from ebay for instance,

Press Alt or F10 to show the menu and check if the menu View > Message Body As. You should have either Original HTML or Simplified HTML checked in order to see images inline. Also having the setting View > Display Attachments Inline checked might help.

Did all you suggested, but did not help. Thanks for your time and effort to respond.

Do you see a black outline of the box containing the image and does it have a broken file icon in top left corner ? If yes, then you are talking about an image that has remote content. This is automatically stopped as a precaution. If the email is in the 'junk' folder then it would need to be moved back into 'Inbox' in order to change the remote content settings.

See info on 'Remote content'

If you are using 'View' > 'Message Body as' > 'Original HTML' and only see a line which has a http://etc etc link, then the sender sent the link not the image.

If you get the image as an attachment then use Onno Ekker's info: 'View' > select 'Display Attachments Inline'.

If a message was sent by Outlook, you'll also get broken image links, because Outlook doesn't attach the images or link to the images the right way.
