The title pretty much summarizes the situation I'm facing.

However, in detail: Everytime I open Firefox, it seems I'm unable to connect to ANY website whatsoever. The tab just keeps "Connecting" forever. Add to that, whenever I close down Firefox or restart it or even try to reset it, a firefox process seems to just hang around in the Process list for awhile before the Crash Reporter pops up. I've reported the problem a few times to no avail.

I've been trying to fix the problem for a long time now. I've checked if my plug-ins were at fault but it seems that they aren't since Firefox still had the problems even after I manually disabled all of them. I even scanned my PC for malware just to be sure. Also, I'm pretty sure my Firewall allows the program through. I might have tried other numerous fixes so far but I'm not entirely sure what they might be. NONE of these fixes helped. The problem kept occurring.

I'm not sure when or what caused this problem but prior to this, Firefox used to work totally fine for me. I hope, this problem can be looked into and rectified ASAP. If any further details are required, please ask.

(By the way, I use Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit OS.)

Hi,

Have you try opening Mozilla Firefox using Safe Mode?

If yes,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  1. Open Firefox Options window (Preferences on Mac or Linux) as follows:
    • In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options for Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux.
    • In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  2. In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the Advanced tab, then select General.
  3. In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  4. Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Network. Look for Configure How Firefox Connects and press the Settings button. If you are using a proxy, make sure those settings are correct. If there is no proxy, first use No Proxy. If there is a problem, then try System Proxy.

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

Adriel: Yes, I've tried running Firefox in Safe mode before as one of the fixes that I mentioned before. And I've tried disabling Hardware Acceleration (The only thing that I haven't done yet as a fix) like you have stated but it has not worked. Also, my graphics driver is up to date according to my source so, I don't see how it might help, knowing that it had not caused any prior to this problem.

FredMcD: I've tried the proxy fix and yet it had not solved my problem back then. I just did it all over and it hasn't worked even now. Also, Windows Firewall had already been set to allow Mozilla Firefox. I just double-checked to make sure and even removed it like you had stated. The problem still persists however. (I'm not sure if Windows Firewall can even be updated, by the way.)

I'm not sure if this might help you guys but, I'll post a link of one of the crash reports I've sent to Mozilla from the Crash Reporter.
