Mcfee is my virus protection
I was asked what my virus protection is & I answered McFee
And you have been given a link to a page that tells you McAfee has issues. I suggest you contact them for the changes necessary to fix their product so Thunderbird works correctly again. Previous fixes and been numerous. Every release for two years has had issues, so you really need to go to the source (support at McAfee) to find out what change is needed for your version.
