I'm always getting the (not responding) error, it will free up and then go back to not responding. The screen will also fade out

I'm using Vista (yuck) and its very frustrating not being able to use FF without constant delays. It starts out ok, but performance degrades gradually. Shutting down FF doesn't help. I must reboot. I also get an error from one of my tools that FF is using too much memory. At that point, I have to reboot. It is especially slow watching movies or youtube.
