Each time I click a link then Firefox opens a new tab. I am spending to much time closing tabs and this is extremely annoying. I want to work in the same tab/window regardless of how many links I click on. How can I configure Firefox to do this?

Thanks,

Ian

I have my preferences set to open all clicked links in a new tab. For an unknown reason, it just stops working and links open in the same tab. I've done all the tips and tricks to no avail. I can left click the link and choose open in a new tab, but I want it to do it automatically every time. Why does this randomly stop working for extended periods of time?

Hi

Running Firefox 71.0 (64 bit)

Well seems Firefox has been messing this up again.

Anyone have the new work around solution to get my tabs back on the bottom again. They were fine this morning then shut down and went out to lunch and when I came back they were back on the top again after months of being where I wanted them below my bookmark bar.

Thoughts on this?

Thanks Dave

Okay here's the story - I was sitting here, cat jumped on my lap and then on my laptop. I tried to slide him off or move him and he just kept grabbing on and flattening himself across the keyboard. Three point seven seconds, he managed to destroy a lot of things. He moved my tabs to the right hand side of the screen I CANNOT get them back, no matter what. He didn't open any dialogs or any settings, nothing was typed and I don't know how on earth this happened. I have provided a screenshot of what it looks like: http://puu.sh/2kBb1

As you can tell, the background of my desktop shows (and other windows behind firefox). It is just like the top bar is - transparent. How can I get my tabs back where they were? I really really dislike this.

With this new version, 29.0.1., it has become difficult to read background tabs. I now have to strain my eyes to read the tabs. Is there some way of restoring the inactive (background) tabs to the way they were displayed before. Before It was always easy to read and switch tabs. I checked under options to see if there was a way to accomplish this with no luck. I never had this problem with previous versions, 1-28! Why did this change? I actually tried different themes but they all had the same problem unless I went to a dark theme but dark themes are hard on my eyes. Rolling the cursor over the tabs doesn't help much either. As a user we should have the ability to make things easy to see and read. Perhaps the ability to control the transparency level (0-100) would be nice. Sometimes I have over a dozen tabs open.

I'm using windows 7-64 bit Home Premium

we have firefox esr version which we use in kiosk mode. we want to disable navigation bar but should be able to open multiple tabs and access them.

Now problem is : once i enable tabs and navbar is hidden. then we are not able to access next/previous tabs. key shortcut (Ctrl+tab or Ctrl+shift+tab) doesn't work. so we can not see another tab.

once i show navbar/tabs then address bar/search bar is also visible which we don't want.

Our requirement is to see multiple tabs with no address/search bar. Please provide help on how we can go to solve this.

Thanks

Updating to Firefox 71.0 was a catastrophe. I lost all my open tags though RESTORE PREVIOUS SESSION was enabled. I had quite a while, till I figured out how Firefox really does restore previous sessions. The lost tabs though were gone.

But one problem is remaining. I can not restore closed tabs with 71.0. Ctrl+shift+T does not work anymore.

How can I enable it again Or is there a new combination for it

Hi, I have updated to the latest verson 75.0, and I am a little uncomfortable for the default action when I open a new tab, the cursor focused on the address bar , and the address bar was widened and made a little shadow to the bookmarks bar which caused discomfort for me, because I always open website by bookmarks bar, no need for typing the full address in the adress bar. I have searched the config options but none is effective and also tried about:config, is there anyway not to widen the address bar or is there a configuration when I click the bookmark in current tab,it will open in new tab not replace the current tab .If it is possible by not downloading a lower verson, please let me know how to config it,thank you.

I have a habit of keeping lots and lots of tabs open in my Firefox window. Sometimes, I'd like to know how many are open so that I can go through and close some of them if the number is excessive...(or at least excessive by my standards).

How do I get a quick count of the number of open tabs? Surely I don't have to count them myself, do I?

I have so many tabs that I would like to display multiple rows. I cannot find an option to do so, but I know that I did this in the past. But I do not remember how I did that. I have tried to find this option in TabMix Plus but no luck. Recently I have been using Tree Style Tabs but it no longer works for me in FF 42. Help me out?

Link completion is very useful feature, except one little thing - some links there have "switch to tab" attribute, which I consider useless and harmful.

There are many site models that do not reflect position in top URI (for example, using POST params, navigating in subframes, etc.), and such links only waste visible completion popup slots.

How can I disable such "switch to tab" links/attributes ?

Ctrl+click works (openning one excess tab), but it's half measure. Safe mode doesn't stop such behavior, so it's core feature.

I would like to make a bookmark file with all the tabs in all the open windows, organised by window. The final goal is to be able to open all Firefox windows with all their respective tabs in another browser, like Vivaldi; alternatively, to time stamp various such bookmark files, and open all the window with all their tabs I had open in Firefox, say, 8 months ago. Please have a look at the screenshot attached: it seems that the menu button Bookmarks → Bookmarks All Tabs makes bookmarks only of the tabs of the upper-most window. Thank you for any help.
