I have a recent issue that usually occurs when I have to use my touchpad instead of another external pointer where my clumsy use seems to be causing accidental creation of bookmarks for some websites I visit and this is mucking up my bookmark toolbar considerably. Also things keep getting sent to the end of the list if I unwittingly catch the edge of an icon while moving the cursor and it happens to shift position just slightly but not enough to reclaim it's own space on the toolbar - this is a real pain if there are accidentally created new icons that now make the list long enough to push them to the overflow and I can't see them on the toolbar anymore.

Is there any extension or setting like the "lock taskbar" in windows that can disable the drag and drop functionality of the toolbar without having to hide or remove it? If I need to add one to the toolbar, I can do it via the manager, but otherwise lock it so my clumsy navigation on the tohucpad of my laptop doesn't make a mess of things as I browse? I have cultivated a set of those most frequently used sites that I have pared down to the most minimal text label in order to fit them all on a fullscreen window, and it is very annoying to look up to select one and find a bunch of stuff I don't need or want that I didn't intentionally put there instead.

I am sure that those accidents probably happen when I try to scroll - I end up with bookmarks of recent google search results a lot. I must accidentally be activting a keyboard shortcut or cli-dragging the icons as I move past them. It would be great if I could just prevent them from moving positions until unlocked.

I use Firefox Enterprise on both Windows and macOS, this alone is the single reason why I gravitate towards Firefox the most, it might be even my main browser, I really don't know which is since I have at least 2 opened at any given time, normally 3 or 4. The best part of it is that I don't have to set it up, it's all done. I use Firefox Sync just in case I use Firefox somewhere else, like a phone or Linux, or to push a page to another device (really, it's pulling the history bc push has never worked) but I can live without it.

When I use Firefox on Linux though, it's a night and day experience, it feels like I have to setup Firefox from scratch even after logging into Firefox Sync, it's only synced selectively mostly cares about useless stuff or stuff that I wouldn't let the browser save, like passwords, partly (but very little) because of privacy but mostly because I use a ton of browsers, I can't micromanage each. I even disable all of this via policy and that's what I'm looking to do, find how to deploy policies on Linux clients. I assume is just a config file like the preference list on Macs, even if it's not automated it should be easy to make available centrally a pull it on demand and drop it in the right place with some script but I have to find how's it done first and what settings will there be supported, none of that available in the documentation of Firefox Enterprise.

Fedora Server 32 now comes with an easy GUI for 389 DS (not FreeIPA for some reason) and a deployment tool for desktops both as Cockpit modules, which is also the GUI used by Red Hat in a lot of their products, OpenShift for instance. I wonder if I could use this to deploy Firefox settings. It even connects to Active Directory out of the box, if it could only process Windows policies... anyway. Is there some obscure documentation, maybe in beta, that goes over any of this?

Thanks.

Hi community,

I found I cannot open any local directory, like "file:///home/". Firefox keeps loading but shows a blank page. Actually I found I cannot open PDFs by Firefox first, and then I found I cannot open any directory. I think these two issues are related.

Does anyone have some idea about this issue? OS: Manjaro Linux Firefox: 80.0.1

Thanks.

Greetings,

I would like to get straight to the point: I want to keep myself logged in on some sites while mantaining my settings. I want Firefox to delete my browsing history and delete all cookies and other techy stuff (apart from that what is needed in order to keep me logged in on sites like Microsoft or Learn Digital with Google) It is important for me to get my history deleted and to enjoy the feeling of launching a fresh web browser whenever I reopen my Firefox. However, looking for my phone just to log in onto certain services that use two step verification is quite annoying so I want to stay logged in there.

Have a nice day!

Hello! I have the following issue - At some point firefox crashes and the default search engine is changed to "Browser Default" yahoo search engine "https://uk.search.yahoo.com/".

Firefox 80.0 (64 bit), OSx - Catalina I guess this is some malware so I disabled/remove all extensions and add ons, but it does not help. This must be some 3rd party app. Any suggestions how can I trace it down?

Why was one of the add-ons able to take over control of the entire browser and add-ons in it and establish its own rules? At the same time, it deleted all history and open tabs and my profile (firefox) did not save anything and did not restore the current session after reinstalling the browser, although it is worth remembering the current session and tabs there. I tried to remove this add-on for a long time, but it blocked all possibilities to do it. The browser began to open with one tab with an incomprehensible address, which was not even displayed correctly, and any attempt to search for something led to the opening of an incomprehensible search engine, but it was possible to go to Google. I don’t remember the name of the search engine, alas, it was several months ago, there was still no time to write to you. Oh yes, on the screenshots everything is in Russian, I'm not sure that you can fully understand them, and if so, write to me about it and I will try to translate the key positions. I would be glad to hear at least some thoughts on this in my profile mail. Here are some screenshots:

Hello all, I've yet to test this in great detail. But, it would appear that Firefox is running super slow. It's using about 3GB of ram out of my 16GB (Seems low imho).

When opening websites like Facebook, videos, the message box etc lags. On YouTube videos can lag, and other sites that have elements that popup etc seem to lag.

I only run an AdBlock, and it's even disabled on the pages that lag. These issues aren't present in Google Chrome or Edge. In fact, Facebook is super responsive in Chrome.

I've tried various things to solve it mentioned on this forum, including entering some urls to access more advanced settings which hasn't worked.

Thanks alot.

It does not matter how many times I change this setting in preferences to "Open in Firefox" I still get this pop-up every time I click a pdf.

It also does not matter how many times I select "open with preview" and click "Do this automatically for files..." box. Every time I click the next pdf the same thing pops up!?!?!?!

And additionally no matter my selection I make ends up leading to a pdf being downloaded automatically.

This is beyond frustrating. Please help.

I don't log into Google or Youtube unless for extreme purposes, and I do my best to protect my privacy from that company whenever I am on their pages. To that end, along with Adblock Plus, Ublock Origin and Privacy Badger, the add-ons I use are:

- Adblocker for Youtube - Decentraleyes - Disable Autoplay for Youtube - Don't Track Me Google - Google Analytics Blocker - Google Container

However, Youtube is still able to track which videos I use and to use their algorithms to display other videos it thinks I want to watch. I want that to stop, completely. There are some add-ons to block the recommendations, but these just block me from seeing what they are recommending based on their tracking that still goes on, when it's the tracking I want to totally stop.

What can I do to always, constantly stop them from tracking my use (again, when not signed in), without breaking my ability to use the site?

And, also, if Youtube is still able to track my use of its site despite the add-ons I'm already using, is Google still able to track me elsewhere?

This is useful because when dropdowns from bookmark bar and side menu are opened - cursor is near top of menu and new bookmarks are more relevant to access them first.

I have a new HP printer and I am using Firefox from a Windows 10 PC. I am plagued with Paper Mismatch errors when printing emails from Firefox. After a lot of trouble shooting, I have found that this problem seems to be confined to Firefox, as it does not happen when using other browsers, e.g. MS Edge. I have tried resetting all Firefox printer settings and the problem still happens when opening Firefox in Safe Mode.

The print job stops with the error message Paper Size Mismatch after the 1st page, and printing will not continue or even move on to the next job until the error is cancelled from the printer's control panel. This means I have to be working next to the printer and cannot print remotely.

In the printing dialogue box under Printing Preferences, the paper size shows Letter, whereas I am using A4 in the printer, and this is the mismatch causing the problem. I can change the paper size in Printing Preferences from Letter to A4, but I have to do this for every job seperately as the paper size setting always reverts to Letter. This is totally impracticable.

Regretably, I will have to stop using Firefox unless there is a solution. Can anyone help me to change the paper size setting to always default to A4, please? Thanks in anticipation.

First I need to point out I'm very difficult user for FF :) Right now I have 52 windows and 476 tabs open

This not a hardware problem as I have good CPU (Ryzen 5 3600) and 64 gigs of memory - running FF 80.0.1 x64 on Windows 10 19041 x64

Until recently everything was fine - I'm not able to tell when that changed but it's just few days

When I start FF, some tabs (from "restore" session) never load. Tab just shows its loading but never finishes. Moreover if I try to open new tabs, they RANDOMLY also never load - doesn't matter which site/page (in other browser same url opens instantly). I need to open X new tabs, paste URL and hit enter into each and after a while the Xth tab loads instantly. X is changing - with freshly started browser its something like 2-4 new tabs. Later it can be 10 or more until "I find" the tab which loads. When I do that, i can open Dev Tools before pasting URL - Networking tab shows no requests, nothing. Same with right-clicking links in working tabs (open link in new tab).

Working tabs are usually good - left clicking links or F5 works fine. But if the tab is left open for some time without activity, it can also stop working (F5 doesn't help)

What i tried: - disable my Firewall (Kaspersky) - restart FF in safe mode without plugins - no "clear cache and cookies" as its not related to any specific site or page

I got the idea recently that maybe there is some problem with FF processes "rotting" (multi process architecture) so I'v tried to kill some of the sub-processes in Task Manager. Of course its hard to find the right one but I'v managed multiple times to hit the right process and suddenly all "loading forever" tabs showed as "crashed" and when I hit "Restart all crashed", all loaded instantly

Any help appriciated! Thanks!

Possible coincidence, but suspicious! Re: Firefox 81 [from the 100s of ‘hits’ I see here now, likely a Ffx bug]

Written from wife’s PC since mine is now crippled. I upgraded to Firefox 81 on my own PC, reluctantly, for “security” fixes, NOT for the big new feature I don’t want. Last night I downloaded v. 81 then closed Ffx and shut down the PC late at night. (It runs Win 7 with all the relevant updates I know.)

Today after booting, it showed my normal desktop. But my email app (located on D: drive) would not open either from shortcut or from Programs menu. Same for all the other apps I tried to open, even on C: drive, including ms_Office. Almost any app would bring up “server execution failed.”

Now, after a few hours on “Sleep” then reopening: --Nothing but a black screen (w/cursor) for 5-10 minutes anyway; --Later a plain blue screen, in small type on lower right: “Windows 7 build [no.] / “This copy … not genuine” –although it came installed, straight from Dell!

I hope mozilla can help cure this in its paralyzed state – and get me back to v. 80.0.1 that worked!
