so, i'm working on a completely local project. specifically, i'm working on an interactive bandcamp liner note download, and the actual target is mostly flac (although it should work for mp3, too). for this reason, i can't be downloading software, and i'm not interested in running scripts. the user needs to be able to launch a notes.html file locally and be able to run a local playlist of the local files s/he just bought in the document.
i understand that it's as easy as directing to the proper m3u file via the html5 tag, iff you're using safari. but, i'm not using safari, and i'd guess most of my audience isn't, either.
what happens in both firefox 54 (windows 7) and a 60x v of chrome on a chromebook is that the controls load, but i can't press play.
this is an old laptop, and i can't run nightly builds on it. but, is there a specific version of firefox where this flips over and starts working?
basically, what i want is for this to work or for some very close analog of it to work:
<audio controls>
<source src="../playlist.m3u" type='audio/x-mpegURL'>
</audio>
again: i know how to do this using javascript, but i'm assuming the end user is running the file locally. so, there's no server involved.

So, I finally bit the bullet and installed Firefox68. But nothing works as expected and I can't find anything in the options to help me.
Main problems at the moment: My address bar in Firefox54 shows lots of options. They disappeared when I upgraded. In Firefox54, when I open multiple tabs, they open on their own "line". In Firefox68, all I see is a "floater" with one tab. I want all my tabs to show at the "bottom". (I use tabmixplus).
I have tried to upload images but it just "circles and circles"
So let me try to describe Firefox54: Top line: oldstyle menu (File, Edit .....Help) Next line: address bar search bar pocket googleoptions home ...... Next line: bookmarks Next line: Prefbar Bottom line: open tabs
Firefox68: Top line: old style menu (File, Edit, View, ...) Next Line: address bar & search bar and that silly 3bars to show the menu. (everything else has disappeared) Next Line: bookmarks (all OK)
That's it. Even when I load multiple tabs, all I see is a tab that "floats" over the address bar & if I open multiple tabs, they seem to partially "hide" behind the menu area so I can vaguely see them behind the bookmarks & address bar - which is very disconcerting
my option changes do not get saved

I am on an interactive web page. It asks me to go to my e-mail (aol) to get some information such as a password then to return to the web page to continue. I do not know how to do this without losing the web page. Currently I go to another computer to read the mail and then go back to the first computer. Or I minimize Firefox browser, load another browser to read mail, then maximize Firefox. I am looking for a simpler way of doing this. (If I close tab it goes back to desktop) George

Hi all, Regarding the known Issue from 4th May where Add-Ons stopped working, I wanted to ask if a fix is planned to be deployed for the older versions (ex. 54.0.1.). I read, that first a fix through "Study" has been released, after that, the newest version 66.0.4 should fix this. https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2019/05/04/update-regarding-add-ons-in-firefox/ https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-ons-disabled-or-fail-to-install-firefox Back then, when updating to a newer version from 54.0.1. I got the message, that some extensions like Adobe Flash / Macromedia Flash were dangerous and are permanently disabled, which made me stay on version 54.0.1. I only use Addblock Plus to get rid of some malicious Adds (the benign Adds stay) and Norton Security to stay protected. Will there be a fix for older Firefox Versions sothat I can continue using the Addons and continue using Firefox?
Thank you.

A less technical blog post about the outage is also available. If you enabled telemetry to get the initial fix, we’re deleting all data collected since May 4. (May 9, 17:04 EDT)
Mozilla CTO Eric Rescorla posted a blog on the technical details of what went wrong last weekend.
Updates – Last Updated: 19:28 EDT May 8 2019
We’ve released Firefox 66.0.5 for Desktop and Android, and Firefox ESR 60.6.3, which include the permanent fix for re-enabling add-ons that were disabled starting on May 3rd. The initial, temporary fix that was deployed May 4th through the Studies system is replaced by these updates, and we recommend updating as soon as possible. Users who enabled Studies to receive the temporary fix, and have updated to the permanent fix, can now disable Studies if they desire.
For users who cannot update to the latest version of Firefox or Firefox ESR, we plan to distribute an update that automatically applies the fix to versions 52 through 60. This fix will also be available as a user-installable extension. For anyone still experiencing issues in versions 61 through 65, we plan to distribute a fix through a user-installable extension. These extensions will not require users to enable Studies, and we’ll provide an update when they are available.
"Updates – Last Updated: 11:51 EDT May 8 2019 (From Mozilla Blog)
Firefox 66.0.5 has been released, and we recommend that people update to that version if they continue to experience problems with extensions being disabled. You’ll get an update notification within 24 hours, or you can initiate an update manually.
An update to ESR 60.6.3 is also available as of May 8th. We’re continuing to work on a fix for older versions of Firefox, and will update this post and on social media as we have more information."
A Firefox release has been pushed — version 66.0.4 on Desktop and Android, and version 60.6.2 for ESR. This release repairs the certificate chain to re-enable web extensions, themes, search engines, and language packs that had been disabled (Bug 1549061).
There are remaining issues that we are actively working to resolve, but we wanted to get this fix out before Monday to lessen the impact of disabled add-ons before the start of the week. More information about the remaining issues can be found by clicking on the links to the release notes above. (May 5, 16:25 EDT)
"Last Updated: 00:54 EDT May 5 2019
Updates:
Some users are reporting that they do not have the “hotfix-update-xpi-signing-intermediate-bug-1548973” study active in “about:studies”.
Rather than using work-arounds, which can lead to issues later on, we strongly recommend that you continue to wait. If it’s possible for you to receive the hotfix, you should get it by 6am EDT, 24 hours after it was first released.
For everyone else, we are working to ship a more permanent solution. (May 5, 00:54 EDT)
There are a number of work-arounds being discussed in the community. These are not recommended as they may conflict with fixes we are deploying. We’ll let you know when further updates are available that we recommend, and appreciate your patience. (May 4, 15:01 EDT)"

... to see WHICH pages are using the cpu? I want something analogous to ps.
When my fan turns on I want to see what the reason is. Normally I use ps (or top) for this, but when I have a dozen tabs open in firefox and I see that "Web Content" is using 100% of cpu this doesn't help me find out which tab is the culprit. I'd like something like ps or top for that Web Content process so I can kill that tab or disable some of its scripts. In fact it would be even better if the Web Content ps utility could tell me which scripts are using how much cpu.

why does cert store contain *multiple* copies same Intermediate SSL Cert?

Hello,
Two questions I hope you all can help us with:
1. What are the circumstances under which a server would fail to provide the Intermediate to the browser? One can say "misconfigured server," but do others have experience with some typical cases where Firefox can't get the Intermediate from a server and figured out why. In researching this issue of "missing Intermediate" (not sending down the Chain or Intermediate). We think the problem is on the server side and we have asked the application developer will look into why his app isn't sending down the Intermediate. But with their development deadlines, they may not get to it soon. I thought some on this forum might have seen past examples or conditions under which Firefox was not given the Intermediate by the server. So this is a little general, but if you have past examples, I'd love to know.
2. From working on the above issue, we came up with a question that is the kind of the opposite: how does it come to pass that on some of our workstations the FireFox certificate store sometimes contains multiple copies of the below (and other) Intermediate Certs:
"Entrust Certification Authority - L1K Software Security Device"
We'd like to understand the mechanism by which multiple (2-3) identical lines / copies of the L1K Intermediate SSL Cert end up in Certificate Manager. Why are there the duplicates? If I understand correctly, if a Software Security Device (Intermediate SSL Cert) is not in the Cert store, the server will provide the chain (or is it just the intermediate?) to FireFox and Firefox will install that Intermediate (since it already has the Root, which for this L1K intermediate cert is Entrust G2, and thus can trust L1K). On maybe 20-30% of the Firefox installs we checked, they have more than one line entry for L1K. They don't seem to be causing any problem, we are mainly curious to know the whys of the appearnce/installation of multiple copies of the same SSL Intermediate Cert.
For both we tested on a bunch of Windows 10 (some Win 7) workstations running mostly between FFox 56-60, with some very few on FFox 48 or older. The "not getting an Intermediate SSL cert" issue does not seem to depend upon the version of the Windows workstation or of FireFox, we think it is server side hence my request for the experiences of others where this happened to them, under what case/situations.
thank you,
Alain

My Firefox browser will not update. It downloads the update but when it installs the update, it just sits there saying "updating" and does nothing else. I let it run that way for well over a half hour and still nothing. I searched your website which suggested uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it. My laptop will not uninstall Firefox. I click on it and nothing happens. I click on the maintenance service to uninstall that and I get error messages saying that I do not have administrative ability. I am at a loss as to what to do next. I have tried restarting my laptop and browser numerous times and that does not help. Firefox still will not update nor uninstall. Thank you for your assistance.
