This morning Firefox upgraded its self. Since then I've not been able to click on links in e-mail to open up web pages. Every time I manually launch Firefox it asks me if I want to make make it my default browser. I reply Yes, so it asks me which account (my or the Administrator) I want to use. It does not appear to make any difference as Firefox does not become my default browser.
In increasing levels of desperation I've tried:
- Tools | Options | Make Default
- Rebooting the PC
- Deleting my Firefox Profile
- Reinstalling the latest version of Firefox
- Reinstalling an old version of Firefox
No luck. Following other threads in this forum I've selected Start -> Control Panel -> Default Programs -> Set Default programs
Firefox is not listed.

Since the last update to Firefox 65, it won't launch on my Windows 7 64 bit. It shows in the running process. I've gone through all the forums and helps. I've checked compatibility, cleared out my allowable programs and re-entered, checked my Windows defender, plus everything else I could find. It would not open in safe mode although I tried something once (no idea what) and it did open briefly to save my bookmarks but then I couldn't get out or back in. I'm at a loss what to do at this point and I really like Firefox. I'm not savvy with computers but I know some and can follow directions. Firefox worked fine until the update and nothing has changed on my computer since that point except downloading Chrome to have a browser.
Firefox cannot keep track of the fact that it's already up to date

Mac OS X High Sierra 10.13.6
Here's the routine with FF on this machine: If FF 68.0.2 is running, after a while I will try to open a new tab and be told "Sorry we need to do one small thing to keep going, FF has been updated in the background, Restart FF" I do so. It opens up a new, clean profile in a new window (About FF now says 68.0.1 in this version of FF, and it downloads 68.0.2 and prompts to Restart FF (again)). At which point it runs "a new helper tool" and re-updates FF to 68.0.2. I then have to mess with about:profiles to go back to my profile. Things then run routinely for a few hours or a day, before the whole routine starts over again.
Alternately, if FF 68.0.2 is not running, if I open it (after opening and closing it several times without issue), I will get a message that "You've launched an older version of FF, Create New Profile or Quit". Create New Profile leads me through the routine above.
Versions of the above routine have happened not just between 68.0.2 and 68.0.1, but also between earlier version updates. That is, this has been going on for months. It does seem in the last couple of weeks that the interval of time has shortened and I'm having to do this routine everyday or even multiple times a day. I have no problems like this with FF on any other machine.
I've tried:
Trashing FF and re-dl'ing from Mozilla. No dice. Trashing FF, trashing Library/Cache/Mozilla and Firefox folders. No dice. Trashing FF, trashing Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles (and re-signing in to retrieve my existing bookmarks etc and re-setting up View and other Preferences). No dice.
If anyone has any ideas, I'll be grateful, thanks in advance.

When I try to set Firefox as my default browser in Windows 8, the options menu goes to the Set Associations menu and won't set it as the default browser. In the instructions on your website for the alternate way to set it it only gives directions for Windows 7, Vista and XP not Windows 8. This is most annoying. I have tried reinstalling Firefox but that didn't work.

So I recently exported my bookmarks, put them on a external hard drive, then re-installed Windows. Windows was getting slow, my anit-malware software wasn't fixing it, so I performed a re-installation. Which I've done before without any problems. I then re-installed Firefox and imported my bookmarks back into Firefox. But this time not all of them returned. I only got about 1/2 of them. I tried Importing again and this time I got some of the ones that were missing the first time, but it still didn't contain all of them. The 2nd import didn't have all of the same folders as the first either, which were placed below the 1st import. So now my bookmarks are jumbled and I'm still missing a 1/4 of them. Most of the bookmarks that I still can't recover were in the Unsorted Bookmarks section if that helps at all. But there may be many more missing. I can't tell... as it would take me a long time to check, as I had many bookmarks and without a copy of the original list I would struggle to remember them all. I looked through the Bookmarks HTML file and still don't see all of the websites that I know were originally there. In fact it just looks like a copy of the 2nd Import that I got. So I don't even know what happened to the websites I got from the 1st import? Where did THEY go?
Can anyone help? I am very confused. I don't know where I went wrong (Exporting, Re-Installing, Importing etc)
I would like to recover all of my Bookmarks if possible. But also figure out what happened, and how to prevent it. So this doesn't happen again to me or other Firefox users.
Thanks you

I finally uninstalled Chrome and put in Firefox. Haven't used it in years.
On my screen most pages are "wide" -- so a horizontal scroll bar appears at the bottom of the page, and to see the very right hand side of the page, I have to scroll over.
I have tried the CTRL and - but all that does is shrink the text on the page. It doesn't make everything actually fit on the page horizontally. See the uploaded images of a question I found on this topic on this forum. Even though I've shrunk the font size down in the second one, I still see the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom. Even if I shrink it all the way to the minimum (which results in a tiny font I can't see), some of the page appears off-screen and has to be scrolled over to be seen.
I have tried for an hour to fix this and there doesn't seem to be any way. HELP!

Task manager shows Firefox loaded as a service but has threads waiting to complete. There is no application shown in Task Manager (which seems reasonable as Firefox has not loaded). There are no error messages. The " microsoft spinning circle " goes for a few seconds and then dissappears as if the program has loaded. Happens only after 2nd & subsequent loads after reboot. Firefox appears to work first time after reboot. This has only happened after upgrade to 42. Clean install makes no difference. Chrome works OK Has worked fine up until update 42. Already tried doing a clean install with the Inform Mozilla box cleared. Perhaps Firefox has started using a port that is blocked by the virus scanner? I get no logging for the virus scanner showing anything blocked. A full virus scan reveals nothing. Operating system is Windows 10 (64 bit)
