Firefox insists on opening files from local temp dir, discarding URLs

My question is a blend of these two previous questions:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1303566 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1277388

I have a bunch of open tabs which used to simply contain pdf documents, opened in the Firefor pdf viewer, with the file URL in the address bar rather than a local temp dir address. This behaviour however changed with a recent update (I'm on 82.0b5), and now when I reload those old tabs, I get prompted for a download, and a new tab is opened following the download with a local temp dir replacing the URL. As all these files previously opened just fine in the FF preview with the URL present, this is unlikely to be related to whether the server sends files as "application/pdf" or otherwise, as the same files have changed behaviour, and it is unlikely that a bunch of servers changed the way they send files at the same time.

Further, the answer to the second question above proposed to select "Preview in Firefox" to get around this, however this option doesn't seem to exist anymore.

Is this a known behaviour change in FF82? If so, is there a way to get the old behaviour back?

Every day I get a Firefox popup that says, "Firefox cannot download the latest version. Download the latest version and we will help you install it". Sometimes the popup appears immediately after I open my browesr, and sometimes it appears after I've been using the browser for several hours.

I've been doing the daily download and install, but I want to know what's causing this. I'm using a Late 2015 21.5" iMac running macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7. Firefox is Version 82.0b4, set as default browser with automatic updates turned on. I've been running Beta versions of Firefox for >2 years and have not had problems with updates before this. Thanks for any suggestions and solutions!

I finally figured out why Firefox kept warning me about opening too many tabs at once: this command is the first option on the pop up menu when I click and hold a moment too long on a folder that is part of my bookmarks toolbar (some of these have dozens of bookmarks)

'Open all in tabs'

this is on my Windows 10 PC using Firefox beta.

Is this a command I can hide/delete/inactivate? I'm quite certain I've never wanted to do this and probably will never want to do it, and now on a machine where I use a mouse with right click it is disturbingly easy to click this accidentally. I want to disable the command entirely.

I did check about:config and saw nothing obviously relevant.

The scroll bar on the right of my screen disappears when I sign in to "The Guardian". This started within the last week. It works OK when I sign in to my other on line subscriptions (NY Times and Washington Post) and all other places I access. It works OK when I do a "Safe Mode" load of Firefox. I have explored the few Add-ons and Custom Settings but have not been able to determine the cause. I am having this problem on any of 4 different computers currently running Firefox 81.0 and Windows 10. Microsoft Edge is working OK if I use it.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have an older addon that was disabled. it's no longer supported and won't be updated. I'd like to reenable it anyway. I'm well aware of the general "risks" involved and prefer to have use to my tools.

"Download has been disabled due to security or stability issues." The best I can see is that the inclusion of optional search bar changes is the culprit. I'd be more aware however the admin on the report has hidden the comments and the bug-report is a bit lacking.

I would prefer not to turn off all add-on verification unless I absolutely must. But that's the point I've now reached. I'm using FireFox 82.0b3 on MacOS 11 Thanks.

FF says

To protect your security, idmsa.apple.com will not allow Firefox to display the page if another site has embedded it. To see this page, you need to open it in a new window.

which takes you to https://idmsa.apple.com/appleauth/auth/signin?widgetKey=92f19b477c5c9be6ab17f3ec2b1b2b7db4d00a9a8c973e3d6c90dac08b91de71&language=GB-EN&iframeId=daw-73c470e4-b981-4226-ba0b-64a0627e5217&appId=632

All I get is a blank page.

If I do this on the Chrome browser it works

Hi all,

MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) macOS Big Sur - 20A5374i Firefox 82.0b3

This is a rather weird one to try and explain.

Ever since macOS Big Sur Public Beta's -- and a mix of Firefox Stable and most recently, a few Beta versions the following happens:

When streaming any form of video/audio via Firefox -- YouTube comes to mind especially -- and swapping between tabs or other Windows or hitting screen resize, pausing/resume.. or just general usage while a stream is happening -- an incredibly weird "scratching" noise is experienced over the sound output. I mainly use the built-in MacBook Pro Sound.

Incredibly difficult to reproduce this, but I am not under high usage/load at the time that it occurs and sometimes am.

Will keep this thread updated if I find a way to reproduce -- but hoping someone else is experiencing this too to assist.

In the new version of the Developer Edition the options "close tabs to the right" and "close other tabs" are in a sub-menu named "Close Multiple Tabs" inside the context menu. Is there's a way to change this so that they will appear directly in the main context menu? I use "close tabs to the right" often and I find this very annoying.

To start off, I've never used the sync feature. Not that I think it won't work, I just haven't trusted the cloud enough yet. That being said, I know my logins and passwords are stored in the "profile" in the appdata of mozilla firefox, on this local computer. To my knowledge, this information is stored in the "logins.json" file located in my default profile. Up until now, I have had no issues retrieving the information I need. However, after this morning, when Version 81 was installed, I visited a website where I needed a particular login. I normally have Firefox automatically populate this information, on this particular site. However, since that did not happen this time, I checked my "logins and passwords" page, only to find "No logins found" on the sidebar, and "No synced logins found" in the main space, with instructions on how to sync from other devices or import from other browsers. Since I have not had a login before (for Firefox), I created an account to see if I could import the information from a previous version. However, only other browsers were listed, and I can't sync from another device, as the information is stored on this machine. Creating an account has also allowed me to post here...

I have opened the logins.json file with notepad, and the logins-backup.json file, and both are full of information. Of course it's not plain text, but the information is there. I can also open these files with Firefox, however, it doesn't recognize the file as the "logins and passwords" file, it just displays the encrypted information in a different (html?) format.

Any advice on how I can import these 55+ logins and passwords without re-creating or changing each one of them? Thanks.

Starting this morning I'm getting a weird error message when I try to share articles from things like Daily KOS from my email. I have no idea what that means and I don't see any references to it in the community answers. Suggestions?

Why am I now having Bing show up as my default search engine when opening Firefox? I don't want Bing but can't find any way to remove it. My settings are such that Yahoo should show upon opening the browser and Google is set as my default search engine.
