After the most recent Firefox updates, I wasn't able to load Facebook anymore, so I looked up whether I could reinstall Firefox without losing all my bookmarks and settings. I followed the advice given on this support page by renaming the folder "OldFirefox" and then reinstalling Firefox, but everything has been lost (or at least seems to be). What I don't understand is when I right click over the new Firefox icon (after the reinstall) and look at the properties, instead of pointing to the folder ...Mozilla/Firefox.exe, it's pointing to ....OldFirefox/Firefox.exe. It's as if the install didn't create a new Mozilla folder in the directory, even though it was supposed to during the install. Is there a way to get back what I lost? I feel like I'm going to throw up right now. I had an enormous amount of things bookmarked and saved. Thanks for any help.

Refreshed Firefox on my computer after getting a message that it was performing slowly. Now I am unable to open private browsing.
If I type in about:privatebrowsing then I get the private browsing screen however if I type anything in to that screen to search for it reverts to normal browsing.
I’m a silver surfer so not the most technically minded but does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get private browsing back. Have used Firefox for quite a long time with no issues before this so don’t really want to change to a different browser.
Can confirm using Windows 7.
Thanking you in anticipation.

As an experiment, I opened both browsers (firefox 67.0 and chrome 74.0.3729.169) in incognito mode. All add-ons were disabled. Went to the same page with the video and started playback at the same time. Both Windows were of equal size and worked the same period of time (about 8 hours). Based on the results, firefox consumed almost 2 times more energy, and therefore consumed significantly more resources. Is this normal, or is there some way to fix it?

After doing an update it would have been nice to receive a notification to let me know that I should restart the browser but instead I am being prevented from opening a link in a new tab just because I have updated the browser among other things in the background. This is will only serve to discourage me from doing an update while I'm using the browser. Now it says that I could have restored the session but as you tell by the little purple mask in the top right corner of the image I've uploaded- I was using the browser in Private-mode so that won't happen and I will get a "Firefox is having trouble restoring your tabs" message if I did a reboot. I had typed whole bunch of stuff in one tab and I had ended up loosing that because I couldn't open a link in a new tab (using Ctrl+left-Click). Now even if a person isn't in Private-mode there are still plenty of reasons for not doing a reboot right after an update like it's possible that a person has to wait for internet access forcing a reboot like this will only make people curse the developers. In my case obviously I was in a private session and I wanted to finish working on something before doing a reboot and in the mean time I should be able to use the browser normally like would be able to use it if I hadn't done an update. In short people shouldn't be prevented from opening a link in new tab just because they've updated the browser. That should go without saying.
Just to mess with the user there's a nice little cartoon on the left with an unplugged extension cord.

After the latest update Firefox stores cookies and site data even in always private and the content blocking set to custom with everything set it the highest settings. Example i can check my email at outlook com then sign out click forget, then close the browser. then open it and it loads my email account without signing in. The only way it can do that is, the browser is storing cookies and site data. the only way to prevent it from doing this is to do everything i described then open the privacy settings and clear cookies, and site data and clear history, two times. Firefox like this is the most unsecured browser. it was a lot better before all these changes. It was a good idea, but it's caused a lot of troubles with security issues for me.

I updated to Firefox 66 on Linux yesterday. I don't know if it's the browser version, but I noticed that nytimes.com started picking up that I'm browsing the site in private mode.
Interestingly, this is something that used to happen on my Chrome book when I used private mode, but this on Firefox, this is a first for me. It may well be that nytimes changed their code to do this, but I wonder upgrade to FF 66 contributed to this.
In any case, I wonder how a site can pick up if the user is browsing in private mode.

I use Firefox in private browsing by default. However, that means that I always have to login to any website, which can be a pain.
I was wondering if there is some middle ground. For example, if I could whitelist cookies from a specific domain to persist across private mode sessions or to be imported from non-private browsing. I am aware that I could be tracked by those domains, but that is a compromise I'm happy with.

Hello, I'm here more to report a bug than to ask a question, but I couldn't get myself to work with Bugzilla, it asks too many things.
So you know how sometimes you open a bunch of tabs in "Private Browsing" just so you have a separate window to close everything at once when it's not needed anymore, well usually in the case of Chrome and Edge, it clears the ram that window was using, instantly no problem... Firefox doesn't really do that and I find it quite worrying if you call it "Private browsing", in fact, closing tabs doesn't really seem to close them at all!
In chrome, when you close 10 tabs you see the ram usage dropping quite clearly, with Firefox it just stays there and it's even worse when I close the whole private window and because I have a normal Firefox window still open, it doesn't clear any ram!
Yesterday I had windows explorer crash because of this and it closed word while I was working on it, go to task manager and Firefox is using 5GB of ram with 5 tabs open... Every damn day I use lots of tabs I have to close Firefox completely and open it again with the same goddamn saved tabs to clear 3gb of memory or more!
Really I want to like this browser, but first of all, this must be a horrible programming practice and second I doubt this is safe at all, keeping closed tabs for hours in memory waiting for the program to close can't be safe, it just can't!
How to reproduce this memory leak? Have Firefox with a normal window open, then open another normal or private browsing window, open a bunch of tabs there, watch memory usage rise, then close that window and watch it not drop at all. Way around it? Close Firefox and re-open. Could it be an add-on bug? Maybe, you tell me if it works with you, but it would still mean there's a bug with Firefox itself.
Really simple, I have no idea why this is a thing, isn't it supposed to have a separate process that clears memory when you close it? I have my doubts it's working like that.

Hi,
I have an issue where a modal works in regular Firefox, but not when private mode is used. And, there is no "Allow/Block pop-ups for this site" information bar in Firefox's private browsing when the issue occurs - nor was that setting previously disabled.
I'm running Firefox version 62.0. It says it's up-to-date. I cleared browser cache and the issue still occurs.
Steps to replicate: 1. Open regular Firefox 2. Go to https://flexithemes.com/ and click on any theme. 3. Under the image, click the download button and the modal appears. 4. Open a new private window in Firefox 5. Repeat #2 6. Under the image, click the download button and no modal appears. Instead, a # is added to the end of the URL.
Is this a bug or a feature? If a feature, is there a way to get the "Allow/Block pop-ups for this site" information bar in Firefox's private browsing when the issue occurs?
If it's a bug in Firefox, where should I report it? And are there any workarounds until it's fixed?
Thanks!

I have a bunch of incognito tabs opened up, but I can’t do anything with them. I can’t scroll through tabs from left to right, I can’t drag them out of the window, I can’t add them to my bookmarks, I can’t refresh them. When I hover the mouse cursor over one of these tabs, it’ll show the name of a website/tab that I already closed before this problem occured. The thing is, I can click the bookmark button, the refresh button and the ‘close tab’ button, and the buttons will become darker as if it they’re working, but instead of it actually following up with the action, a small white rectangle shows up next to my mouse cursor.
I don’t know what to do and I don’t want to lose these tabs. Does anyone know what I can do to get them to respond to my actions?
