Lately, Firefox unchecks the 'use autoscrolling' and 'play DRM-controlled content' options sometimes (but not every time) when it starts. Other settings don't seem to be affected. It does seem to unset both at once, never one or the other at a time.

I have begun using Firefox routinely on two computers, both signed into the same sync profile. My best guess is that maybe one profile is overwriting the other? Both of these options are set on the second system, but maybe there's something going wrong with the sync?

Thanks, Patrick

Here is a question about Firefox and Windows. I need to be able to dictate because my typing is very poor because of Parkinson's disease. If I try to dictate into Roam Research using Firefox in combination with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Firefox behaves oddly. If I dictated a line and hit return sometimes the line disappears, or sometimes the return makes it move down and then the crusir is positioned above the line just dictated, or sometimes, if the dictatiion exceeds the line lenght, the dictation is captured but you can't see it, although you can copy and paste it.Is there some problem with interaction of Dragon NaturallySpeaking and Firefox or of either of them with the RR notetaking app? This does not happen with Chrome. I prefer to be able to work in Firefox but it does not look possible . Is there anything you can do? Or advise me to do? I have installed the Dragon NaturallySpeaking professional plug-in extension for Firefox; might that be part of the problem? I can use Dragon dictation box and then copy and paste into Firefox, but that is not necessary in chrome. David Kolb

I'm Running Windows 10 and Firefox 94.0.2 64 bit From a web page, I cannot print searchable PDFs, i.e., I cannot select and copy text from the PDF I know I used to be able to do this with Firefox, not sure when I lost the capability. I have older web pages printed from Firefox that are searchable/text-selectable

I've tried creating the PDFs by "printing" to Bullzip, MS Print to PDF, CutePDF Writer. All yield similar results - the resulting PDF appears to be a graphic blob and clicking on anything in the PDF selects a large blue box. Chrome does appear to work. In Chrome, select PRINT, then Destination SAVE AS PDF. This yields a searchable PDF. This is more than annoying as I use the text selection regularly. Is switching to Chrome the only reasonable answer? Thanks!

Hi,

I have recently upgraded the FF ESR from 78.15 to 94.1.0. When I first run the FF, it pops up a "default browser" & "colorway theme" dialogue. I knew that there is a way either press "ESC" or "Not NOW" to skip. It didn't happen with ver 78.15 or earlier. And I did modify the Mozilla.cfg file by adding pref("browser.shell.checkdefaultbrowser", false); replace it right after the installation. Does anyone has an idea about any policy / registry can shoot the problem.

Thank you

Hi!

I want to copy addons 'with 'data from profile a to profile b. I copied extensions and browser-extension-data but now all addons are disabled. And after I enable them they start from clean state - they don't have their data - that is adblock dont have custom filters, grease monkey don't show it's scripts, redirector dot remeber it's redirection rules and so on. What other files do I need to copy to make addons recognize their data?

FirefoxCP WebExtensions and FireFoxCP Isolated Web Content seem to cause my Mac's fans to spin crazily and are taking up the most resources by far. This happens most frequently on Hearst newspaper site and other heavy ad sites. I can turn off Enhance Tracking Protection which does not really seem to have an effect. I mean the fans will slow after about a minute or two and then start up again when I go do the next page. According to Mac Activity Monitor FirefoxCP WebExtensions will use up just over 2GB of memory and FireFoxCP Isolated Web Content will use just under 2GB of memory.

Firefox using large amount of cache, starts running slow and will crash when closing. This started a couple months ago and I haven't made any changes other than FF updates and MS updates. To fix this I just run CCleaner and start FF back up, then all runs fine for a day or so. Sometimes I go into Tools, Settings, Privacy & Security, Cookies and Site Data and clear Cache (not cookies). It is normal to see cache at around 511 MB of cache. It starts out fresh at 55.1 MB. I start FF with 8 tabs open. FF is the only application that I start. I didn't use to have this problem, not sure when exactly started. I do have Performance at "Use recommended performance settings". No "hardware acceleration" is checked. Now I do recall some time ago I did not check Use "recommended performance settings" and I checked the number of threads or something like that would be used, I forget exact terminology, but that option seems to have gone away with one of the FF updates

Running FF 94.0.2 (Yes I know 95 is out) Dell Optiplex 8GB Intel Core i5 Windows 10 Pro 21H2 19044.1387

No new addon using Flagfox, Tab Reloader, NoScripts, Undo Close Tab, Webroot Threat Shield and Facebook Container. These have been used for years with no issues.

FF Task manager shows most things low, the highest memory usage Gmail at 27MB.

Right now when using Microsoft Task Manager (I just started FF) I find it using 15 processors for 752MB. Sometimes I have seen up to 40 FF processors. Most are not using any CPU or other resources. Microsoft Task Manager shows 6% CPU, 47% Memory, 2% Disk, 0% Network, 5%GPU. Not at all busy, but running okay now, will take awhile to start the running slow.

Now after all that, is there anything I should be checking or changing? Just went up to 23 FF processors running via viewing MS Task Manager. Still no load on resources.

Recently, my Firefox stopped autofilling "gmail.com" when I start to type it into the search bar. I haven't cleared my history or any caches or anything, so I'm assuming I somehow made it stop autofilling that one link. It still autofills sites like "youtube.com" for me typing "y" or "bestbuy.com" from me typing "b", it has only stopped doing "gmail.com" from me typing "g". In fact, no matter how much of that link I type out it won't autofill.

I'm hoping you could let me know how to re-add it. I tried typing it in several times in a row so it would re-add it, and that didn't work.

There are lot of previous topics on "Bookmarks Toolbar "Only Show on New Tab" option not working"

But I DON'T like the proposed solution at all.

"New tab" is really new- which was just appear in tabbar. Regardless of a new tab content, it could be whatever of:

  • blank page (my case)
  • Firefox Home page
  • Some addon start page

The new tab should be still "new" to make a decision to show the bookmarks tabbar in it.

So, the tab is new when:

  • it was just appear
  • the tab content is rendered only once (didn't go to any other URL)

As a programmer, I'm sure it's not difficult to fix, isn't it?

From the number of the previous reports you can see how many users don't expect the current behavior (for me, Firefox 94.0 don't show bookmarks tabbar in new blank tab).

I am getting the following error, although I have the CA and server certificates imported in Firefox:

SSL peer had some unspecified issue with the certificate it received. Error code: SSL_ERROR_CERTIFICATE_UNKNOWN_ALERT

I have no option to Add an exception or "Accept the risk and continue". It's not a public server, it's my own app developed on Jetty and used to work until 1 year ago. Simple cert chain: one CA which signs the server cert. Both imported in Firefox.

My current pdf behaviour is set to always open in firefox.

When clicking a link to a pdf, firefox will open it in browser (desired behavior) but when I click a pdf download link (even the one in the default firefox pdf viewer) it gives me a prompt asking if I want to save or download. In other cases like downloading a pdf from google drive, it will give me a prompt asking if I want to save open or open with firefox. My desired behavior for a download link is to just always download.

Since they are prompting me even though I've set it to open in firefox, the browser must be able to see a difference in the links but if I select download and select "do this automatically from now on" then it overrides my default behavior for normal pdf links and everything auto-downloads. Is there a way to set what happens in these cases? The extra prompt is just annoying and the last annoyance after switching from chrome recently
