Linux Mint several versions, Windows 10.

Microphone permissions do not get "remembered" properly. Microphone permissions exceedingly difficult to navigate through, to enable the microphone.

Have endured this one for several years, off and on, multiple versions of Firefox.

For some reason, Firefox prevents GLOBAL permissions for the microphone, and instead, causes us to have to chase down a specific site to give specific-site permission to, in order to use the microphone.

Even then, it doesn't work right, often enough to be problem. It is intermittent in occasionally "forgetting" that approval was given to a site. It also does not allow manual override in the form of typing in a site, and giving that site permission, without first being connected to that site, and using the bizarrely-arcane system of clicking on a small icon on the address bar to include the site, and again, this does not always work well, anyway.

Multiple interlocking difficulties/issues, one result, no mic at the time it's needed to communincate with someone, real-time.

Is there any way, PLEASE, to simply provide a GLOBAL switch for the microphone, to simply turn it on, for everybody, and everything? Something in about:config I could go to, and tell it to OVERRIDE all other considerations, and just let the microphone alone, and let me use it?

I compartmentalize my browsing to a significant degree, and the sites I visit with Firefox are quite limited (most of which is associated with a Google Voice account, but not every last bit of it), and even then, it is so fragmented and buggy, that I find myself again and again, talking to someone who cannot hear me, even though I'd jumped through every single hoop previously, and had everything working previously, until reverted inexplicably back to its bad old ways, silently, without warning, without advising me that something had changed. Private browsing is disabled, but I'm running several privacy extensions.

But again, it sure would be nice if I could just find, and invoke, a GLOBAL ALLOW switch for the microphone, set it one time, and forget about it thenceforth and forevermore.

Please do not refer me to the existing hoops to jump through. Please do not refer me to the little security icon in the address bar. Please do not refer me to any single web page which I must allow without allowing permission for ALL web pages. My familiarity with this end of the issue is beyond extensive. Been there. Done that. Over and over and over. And it works, and then it breaks once again.

To sum up: Please provide a GLOBAL OVERRIDE for the microphone to turn it on and then forget about it.

My very kindest thanks, in advance.

I use 2 laptops and an internetprovider. The provider give me 2 adres for communication. one is ABC74 and the other is ABC74- quest. On the Acer with Firefox 66.0 can I use both adres ( ABC74 an ABC74-Quest ) On the Lenovo with Firefox 86.0 is only the ABC74-quest available. On that computer Firefox shows me that there is the connection with ABC74 but get the warning that Firefox can not made a connection.

The rest of the homecomputers ( Mac with Safari and Windows 7 and 10 with EXplorer ) has not that particular problem.

Normally, I am able to select any number of things (text from web pages, URLs, etc) and copy them to other other applications, but occasionally the ability to copy to the system clipboard seems to stop working, in that I am unable to copy to other applications, and my system clipboard indicator shows no activity. Restarting Firefox is the only way I've found to resolve this behavior. (This is annoying because it doesn't seem to remember my window positions, but that's probably another issue.)

However, within Firefox (between tabs, tabs to controls, etc), the clipboard continues to work fine. I can also continue to paste to Firefox from other applications.

I'm running Gnome/Mutter/Wayland (Fedora 33). Any ideas what could be causing this?

While in the middle of a sentence, if I press 'Home key', the cursor goes to the start of the page. This is just like using 'ctrl + Home'. But I want the cursor to be at the beginning of the sentence. Could you please give a solution to this problem. Thanks.

Hello group, I am preparing a meet.jit.si session and during this procedure I discovered, that I can not share my (as host) screen with my guests. Firefox runs under Debian 9 and 10 (2 machines) ... the screensharing works under Chrome but not under Firefox. Is there an add-on or setting, which allows screensharing?

As I need it for next week this issue is kind of urgent. thanks Jörg

Hi, I need some help about a feature I'm searching for in Firefox.

I usually have a lots of tabs, sometimes for several usages (work for project1, work for project2, entertainment, ...). I finally have some difficulty to find all tabs back for a specific usage (I configured Firefox to remember my tabs at closure).

I though of something that would be useful. I mean I would like to define several "workspaces" in Firefox with dedicated tabs. Then, when I need to switch from one set of tabs to another, I would simply need to change the workspace. And that's all.

I saw a little about profiles, but I don't know if that's what I'm searching for.

Thanks for your help !

As part of my job, I need to run JNLP applications. I can run them from Dolphin (KUbuntu's file explorer) or the command line without problem. However, it would be a lot easier if I could launch them directly from Firefox.

However, when click on a JNLP link my application choices are either "cautious-launcher" which does nothing or another unrelated application. This results in the file being downloaded and then I have to go either in Dolphin or on the command line to the downloads directory and run my JNLP application. Lots of unnecessary steps.

Under preferences I can see that JNLP is set to use javaws, but that option never shows up.

I tried setting "browser.download.skipConfirmLaunchExecutable" to true, but that made no difference.

How do I fix this?

Hi SuMo I'm not a big fan of mouse/touchpad when browsing, I rather like keyboard shortcuts, e.g. Ctrl+K, W and so on. Although, my boss recently lent me a windows laptop (which brings me back in the years) and I noticed I felt borrowed I could not zoom in/out with the touchpad Ctrl+2-fingers-glide like I can do I linux and like Ctrl+mouse Wheel. I know I can Ctrl+[+/-/0] but this is a keyboard feature, and also pinch with the touchpad*, but Ctrl+2-fingers-glide seems to me the natural intuitive sister of Ctrl+Wheel and is very convenient when reading a page where scroll has yet same equivalent for both pointing devices, namely simple wheel and simple 2-fingers-glide.

  • this is fingersache when we have palm sat on the desktop in front of the touchpad, so this question can eventually fall in accessibility features request. Pinch is just a thing for touch-screens.

Any chance we see this feature in Windows soon or is there already a hidden feature (I already searched about:config for zoom without success). BTW, some other apps work this way : MSO, LO, GIMP etc.. both in Win & nuxes for the 2 laters.

Thanks guys for years of quiet browsing.

I'm running Firefox 86.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu and noticed that when I am restoring a previous session with multiple windows open, at least one of those windows opens with part of the contents shifted off screen.

The window opens maximized, and the title bar fills the entire top edge of the screen as expected, but the rest of the window, from the tabs on down, as shifted down and to the left. For the rest of this post, I refer to this as the screwy window.

I have attached three screenshots. The first shows just the normal looking window. The second one shows just the screwy window with the title bar the shifted remainder of the window, and part of the deskop that should be covered. The last screenshot shows both windows open, with the screwy window on top.

Any ideas how I can fix this?
