Having been mildly nagged to update, gave in to 91.3.0esr. (This is a Linux box with KDE.) Now, at 3:00 AM, have found that dozens of previously-visible tabs, across a number of windows, are invisible and unclickable. The current tab can sorta-be-seen at the bottom of the window, but that's it. As nearly as I can tell, the browser still knows about all the tabs from the previous (pre-update) session, and there is a place for the tabs in the toolbar (under the bookmark bar, where it belongs), but no tabs, and no control thereof.

At 70 years of age and with over 25 years of professional development, I assure you that, had I changed some user's interface in such a way, I would have been, uh, "spoken to", and not so kindly. Or worse. I also assure you that my wife will be bothered even more than I by this turn of events.

Can someone there PLEASE advise a short set of instructions to put things back where they belong, and working?

And can some powers-that-be PLEASE note that when users get a friendly working environment, we do NOT want the Microsoft-we-know-what's-best-for-you approach to interface development and maintenance? I know we aren't paying $$ for this product. But it isn't offered that way - I probably WOULD pay a fair fee for a sound, stable product that always works as well as yours USUALLY does.

Thank you very much for your help!

How can I exclude `http://domain.com` part from URL column? The urls I'm working with look like this `http://domain.com/path/to/resource` `http://domain.com/another/path/to/resource` So `http://domain.com` part takes too much space in URL column, but displaying just File column is not informative in this case.

Hi

I am looking for a way to edit the parameters used to save settings under the .mozilla directory. Can I edit any specific files (json, html, whatever but Not sqlite I presume) as it relates to add-ons, themes and extensions. If so where are they stored for any recent Firefox program. I use Linux and often 'rsync' entire /home/me/ (which of course includes .mozilla) contents but sometimes the addons are different. By the way I absolutely love how the settings are all kept in this manner and not mixed with the program executable at all.
Any help would be appreciated ...

I have a Chromebook HP 360 running Linux Today I used Linux and managed to get Firefox to work on my Chromebook it works fantastic except for one issue

I can't seem to get a microphone that will work with anything but Bing so if I asked Bing a question I can use the microphone

what I want to do is type in Facebook Messenger or write an email and use a microphone to do it the microphone on my Chromebook in my accessibility features will only work with my Chromebook it won't work with a Firefox browser is there an add-on somewhere that I can use that I can't find that will accomplish what I'm trying to do.

It's so much easier to tap the microphone button and then speak instead of type especially if I have a long letter to write.

I know that cookies are stored in a SQLITE database. I use a Linux distro and as per the documentation I viewed the cookie file at location '~/.mozilla/firefox/PROFILE_FOLDER/cookies.sqlite' and I can view all the contents as expected.'

However, these two things are bugging me if someone can please help me:

(i) SQLITE isn't a server connected database (it just offers minimal functionality) and since cookies are something accessed by server side from http headers with every request how does that work out?

(ii) Session storage key value pairs are stored in '~/.mozilla/firefox/PROFILE_FOLDER/webappsstore.sqlite' however, when I create session storage key value pairs and without closing the tab if I try viewing the session key; I can't find the key value pairs. I tried with Local storage and it works however with session storage it does not show me the key value pair in database.

I am on Linux (Manjaro) and would like to know how to configure the toolbar layout for all future users.

I am already using `/usr/lib/firefox/distribution/policy.json` to install extensions and a theme for future new users/profiles.

I also know how to use `/usr/lib/firefox/defaults/pref/autoconfig.js` and `/usr/lib/firefox/firefox.cfg` to set about:config settings globally.

The last thing to do is configure the toolbar, which is a bit messy now with a few extensions installed.

I can't find this in the documentation. Can anyone help? A few examples:

- I want the download button to be positioned left of the address bar and "always show". - The uBlock Origin button between the Download button and address bar. - All other extension buttons (Bypass Paywalls, Facebook container, Google container, YouTube sponsor block) removed as they have no practical need on the toolbar. - I also want to put some things in the overflow menu such as screenshot, history. - Also I want to enable the bookmark toolbar and put the Firefox account menu button and History menu button on the far left of it.

Hello, I'm behind a corporate proxy server and I had no issues with this until a couple of months ago. First I was using FoxyProxy, and one day I realized that Firefox wasn't syncing so I started troubleshooting (Troubleshoot mode) and found out that when a proxy addon (now I moved to SmartProxy and it's the same) is enabled Sync fails. I even tried setting up a new profile with a different, new, Firefox Sync account and the outcome is the same. Anyone else having this trouble? Is this a bug? Should I report it? Anyone wants to help me reproduce it? Thanks in advance!

PS: This happens on my Windows 10 machine too.

Hi, Presently users login through Vmware VDI to access mozilla firefox on Ubuntu OS.The VDI Ubuntu OS is on non-persistent mode , the Ubuntu image including users mozilla profile directory will get erased once the user logs out.

They will get new Ubuntu OS from the golden image once they login back and new user mozilla profile will be created.

Whatever user settings is done including bookmarks will not be saved , hence i am exploring to do settings directly on the golden image to save mozilla profile on shared directory (/home/user/Documents).

Kindly suggest how to save mozilla profile on shared directory (/home/user/Documents) or save bookmarks to (/home/user/Documents)

How to liberate the max size of the ".sqlite" file in "storage/default" in "~/.mozilla/firefox"?

Firefox seems to constrain the maximum size of the ".sqlite" file in "storage/default" in "~/.mozilla/firefox" to 10% of the free space of the partition containing the home directory of the user. I need to let the ".sqlite" file grow very large, even larger than the free space of the partition containing my home directory. Therefore, I need the following two points.

1. I would like to disable this 10% constraint. 2. I would like to place this ".sqlite" on an external USB drive (or USB stick) without moving the entire "~/.mozilla/firefox" directory to the external USB drive.

The path of this ".sqlite" contains an enigmatic alphanumeric string and hexadecimal digits, which differ from user to user and from machine to machine, and which may be inappropriate to be exposed to the public. So, I refrain from showing the exact path. Instead, I will describe the path.

The directory "~/.mozilla/firefox" contains a subdirectory whose name ends with ".default-release", which in turn has a subdirectory "storage/default", which still in turn has a subdirectory whose name starts with "moz-extension+++" followed by hexadecimal digits and hyphens (but not followed by "^userContextId"), which still in turn has a subdirectory "idb", which finally contains the file whose name ends with ".sqlite".

The following is a diagram to describe the path. Directories are separated by / as common on Unix-like systems unlike Windows. A sequence of three asterisks (***) indicates an omission of enigmatic string.

   ~/.mozilla/firefox/
     ***.default-release/
       storage/default/
         moz-extension+++***/  not followed by ^userContextId
           idb/
             ***.sqlite

Firefox seems to constrain the maximum size of this ".sqlite" file to 10% of the free space of the partition containing the home directory of the user.

I replaced the "idb" directory with a symlink named "idb" which points at a directory (which is also named "idb") on an external USB drive. That is, I deleted the "idb" directory from the partition containing the "~/.mozilla/firefox" directory, and created a symlink named "idb" in the place of the old "idb" directory.

Then, I successfully let Firefox write data into the new ".sqlite" file on the external USB drive. However, Firefox continues to constrain the maximum size of this ".sqlite" file to 10% of the free space of the partition containing the home directory of the user. Even after the diversion by symlink, the basis of the constraint is still the partition containing the home directory of the user (instead of the external USB drive), of which 10% is the max size of the new ".sqlite" file residing on the external USB drive.

I like neither the 10% constraint itself nor the basis of constraint being the partition containing the home directory of the user.

How can the 10% constraint be disabled? I would like the only limitation for the size of the ".sqlite" file to be the free space of the external USB drive.

By the way, for those who want to know why I care about this ".sqlite" file, I will explain as follows. There is a certain download manager which is an addon or extension of Firefox. In its multithread mode, this download manager divides the desired file into several parts, and downloads all the parts simultaneously. In certain circumstances, the multithread mode is several times faster than the single-thread mode. This download manager downloads all the parts of a file into the ".sqlite" file first, and then assembles them into a final big file in the Downloads folder or whichever directory that the user specifies.

In my use case, 10% of the free space of the partition containing my home directory is too small to receive big files. I wish this download manager could download the multi-parts into an external USB drive in a manner that Firefox does not impose any constraint. However, this download manager cannot let the user specify where the multi-parts should be downloaded to. It downloads the multi-parts into only the ".sqlite" file and nowhere else; and Firefox imposes the 10% constraint on the ".sqlite" file. The user can specify the destination of only the final file assembled from the multi-parts.

Anyway, I need to disable the 10% constraint. But how?

Thank you in advance.

Using Firefox 94.0

The objective is to change the tags of large numbers of bookmarks. This is to organize existing bookmarks under new categories that help in finding them more easily.

Until some time ago, I used the Library (Ctrl + Shift + O) to first select a batch of bookmarks (whether or not filtered after an existing tag or another criterion); and typed the new tag in the field Tags: at the bottom of the Library dialogue window. If I had to change the tag, I simply wrote the new one; the old one was replaced. If I had to add a tag, I could repeat the old tag and add the new one.

Now, instead, my new tag is appended to each and every bookmark in the batch. This makes it impossible to delete the old tags, unless you do it one at a time. Both doing and undoing become unwieldy when you have tens or hundreds of bookmarks. Also, it defeats the purpose of streamlining, because the number of tags grows.

So, there is a difference in behavior between editing the tag of a single bookmark and the tag of a batch of bookmark. Is this intended? If so, how to work around that? If not, I presume this is bug.

I've browsed through a dozen of posts now and so far got my homepage to show me my local file. The problem is that I want this local file to also show when I open a new tab (Ctrl+T).

I've configured an autoconfig based on another post I read, currently have this:

In my autoconfig.cfg: // first line is a comment var {classes:Cc,interfaces:Ci,utils:Cu} = Components; var newTabURL = "path_to_my_file.html"; aboutNewTabService = Cc["@mozilla.org/browser/aboutnewtab-service;1"].getService(Ci.nsIAboutNewTabService); aboutNewTabService.newTabURL = newTabURL;

In my autoconfig.js: // pref("general.config.filename", "autoconfig.cfg"); pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0); //pref("general.config.sandbox_enabled", false);

I have the last line commented because it worked for the poster, but it gives me an error that firefox couldn't load my autoconfig and that I should contact my sysadmin, lol. Other than that error message, it worked the same as it does now after I closed the popup.

If possible I don't want to use any extensions for this.

Hi,

I'm using Firefox ESR 78.15 with a slightly modified Arkenfox user.js

I keep getting two "Unknown Collection" messages in the console after startup.

The first one reads Unknown Collection "main/messaging-experiments" in the headline, while the following text is shown in the drop down menu: "UnknownCollectionError resource://services-settings/RemoteSettingsClient.jsm:155 sync resource://services-settings/RemoteSettingsClient.jsm:455 InterpretGeneratorResume self-hosted:1158 AsyncFunctionNext self-hosted:693

The second one reads "Unknown Collection "main/cfr-fxa" in the headline, with the same text in the drop down menu as above.

Can someone please explain what these messages mean and if it is something to be concerned about?

I've spent quite some time, but couldn't find out.

Thanks

When adding a bookmark on Firefox Desktop, putting a bookmark in a folder when adding it becomes cumbersome when one has a lot of bookmark folders and sub-folders. What I mean by that is that the user has to scroll a lot to find the folder they want to put their bookmarks in. It takes too much time. My suggestions for improvement:

  1. Allow the user to resize the "Add bookmark window" so that they can quickly spot the folder they're looking for. The ideal would be to have the possible to maximize the "add folder" pop-up/window just like the one we have when we click on "Manage bookmarks" (Ctrl-Shift-O). This would be much faster.
  2. Provide a search bar to quick search for the folder/sub-folder we want to put our bookmark in.

I run Thunderbird on an email-only system which I can access from LAN or remotely.. I "ssh -X" to that system and run Thunderbird, which displays on my workstation. Until an update a few days ago, when I clicked on an http/https link in Thunderbird, if there was an instance of Firefox running on my workstation, the link would open in a new tab on the most recently accessed Firefox window. If there was no instance of Firefox running on the workstation, then Firefox would be started on the email-only system, which would display on my workstation. After the recent update, the behavior has changed: clicking on a link always opens Firefox on the email-only system, not a new tab on the workstation.

Running Thunderbird 78.14.0 on Centos 7.9 email system, Firefox 94.0 on Fedora 33 workstation.

Any suggestions on how to have the previous behavior?
