It is simply as above. I first noticed it when AIOS failed to respond. but ok added video download helper. I had one password for add-ons, another for FF account but this was necessary on account of FF, not me. the page of the ff acct was simply---blank/empty and totally unresponsive. it is a dead body w/out stink. in other words, there is no screen shot to offer. in all this, AIOS remains dead. again 'no', i reload FF only as a last result.

I am getting seriously tired of this nonsense.

Four at least the fourth or fifth time a Firefox update has messed with my computers settings and programs. This time update 48.0.2 has disabled my surfing protection extension, HP Simple Pass and Norton Identity Safe, saying that the programs "could not be verified for use with Firefox and has been disabled". Naturally, and one again, this arbitrary action has been taken with no information (or even option) on reversing the blasted change.

On top of that, because of these changes my security programs and a few other startup programs have been blocked from running at startup.

Would somebody please tell me how to reactivate these essential items or, preferably, show Firefox's techies how to create an update that doesn't screw with the users settings?

Thanks.

Hello Folks,

This is not a question but a notification about Crashing and Freezing with two add-ons that I had installed on Firefox 48.0.2. After I updated Firefox was crashing and Freezing every few minutes I filled out the crash reports sent them closed Firefox, I would then open it again only to have the same issue repeat itself after a few minutes. I then tried to figure out why and the only thing I could come up with was the below two add-ons that had been installed after a Windows 7 clean install, which were not the same as I'd used previously. So after uninstalling them everything is working 100% no Freezes or Crashes since. I know nothing about debugging or script writing and could not find a contact email to report the issue so I thought here would be the best option, just incase someone else has the same issue and that this notification may help.

I switched to Firefox from Chrome a few months ago. Since then, I am troubled with the whole Firefox freezing on certain websites, ex: most airlines. If I open up a single tab, then I obviously need to wait for the whole page to load, which takes around 3s. If I open multiple tabs, pages seem to take as long as 10-15s to load and all tabs totally freeze. The same webpage combinations load perfectly fine on Chrome tabs.

I am running Firefox 48.0 on Linux Mint 18 and suspect that it is related to a resource-heavy script that such websites have (maybe Java?). It is as if something in the websites get mutexes etc. and block the whole program rather than everything running on parallel threads. I tried disabling all extensions to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This keeps happening I will be on a random site and crash FF goes away. Next thing I am getting a "Do you want to restart FF" or Quit message. I normally hit the "Restart" but it make no difference. I have ran with all ad-dons disables, I have Flash Killer and only have the browser version installed. All my programs are up to date I use Secunia PSI, and Kaspersky Software Updater to double check that everything is always updated and current. I stream only in HTML5 so I don't have to deal with Flash. I do have a fair amount of ad-dons like Ghostery, Add Blocker Ult, No Script, Flash Blocker, Cookie Monster, Default User Agent, and Simple Site Blocker and Leech Block since Simple Site is now full, no longer able to block sites I need blocked.

As I said this still happens with them disabled or still running and I can't have FF closing in the middle or work or when I am streaming an important video (not talking movies, porn, etc but work related) I need this to work and it not just streaming when it decides to do what it wants when it wants. Also It has issues with closing the when I want to log off or need to do something else. FF refuses to close and the amount of system resources is extremely high in my view we are talking 999,999k. Hitting End process does nothing at all the only way to close FF is to restart the computer, and once its back up if you open FF guess what. Its going to crash and or refuse to close and your back where you started at.

I have created new profiles until I have had to stop due to just having too many, I think having 15 FF new profiles is enough to guess that is not the issue its not working. Worst of all their are times when my mouse does not want to work correctly with FF open and wants to go skipping across the page I have to force it to do what I want it to do. (Cordless by the way) not sure if this is resources issue or what but its becoming a pain too. I run scans with Kaspersky Total Security 2016 it never find anything wrong, I don't trust it. I installed and ran Malware-bytes and Rogue-killer and both of them found things that Kaspersky Total Security 2016 keeps missing, including an large number of FF profiles.

Their was an issue with HitmanPro Alerts it kept becoming infected and was coming up as a Viruses so I simply got rid of it and that issue went away along with my money. But now what to do about FF and its issues? I cannot believe that FF is this buggy and has this many issues every update something goes wrong and it crashes goes down. I switched from Google because I hate the Spying but I don't see much difference between FF and them. At the very least their program did not implode every hour or so with suggestions that off little to no help to fix.

Win 7 Enter, with 8gig RAM 12TB storage, office 2013 all updates applied and all programs current and up to date nothing out of date no malware or hardware that can be doing this on my end that I can find.

Greetings,

This morning I opened an e-mail that turned out to be a string of random sentences -- certainly a spam e-mail. There was no attachment and no link in the body of the text. I didn't click on it, of course. But even I know not to do that.

I realized I'd opened something suspicious and closed the email -- thinking "What an idiot. I did it again."

But now the strange thin happened. My internet connection turned itself off and then came back on. Never seen it do that before.

I started running a security software (ClamXav) only to realize it was out of date. This process caused my computer to slow down to a near standstill. I decided after failing to force quit that turning off the computer was the only option. However, it took several tries before I could get the computer to start up again. That was unusual.

I did not upgrade my ClamXav because I would have had to make an online payment -- and if I do have malware, I don't want to just GIVE them my credit info.

Next oddity (and this is the REAL issue of interest in my mind) was that I checked to see if anything had been downloaded by opening my hard-drive and setting it to 'Date Modified". My application folder came up first and within I discovered that my copy of Firefox had been modified at almost the exact time that I'd opened the email. This is VERY odd.

I discovered online that there are malware that run on html and if one has allowed html for emails they can deposit material. Could that have happened here? For indeed, my email client and Firefox were set to allow html email.

Can Firefox have been compromised?

I'm running old software (System 10.6.8), though the Firefox is the latest version (48.0.1).

Any ideas about what might be going on and what steps I should take next?

All best wishes,

gordon

How do you register so that you can post a reply on the Support Forum? I see a Logon option but no option to register. I wanted to post a reply to the "sites serving fake firefox-patch.exe/firefox-patch.js list and discussion." topic. I have been seeing the fake update page for both FireFox and Flash for about two months. Knowing that this was not how FireFox or Flash updates are delivered, I did not click on the fake pop-up box. To try to stop the face pages from appearing, I did a FireFox reset, but it did not have any effect and the update screens continued to appear about every other day. About two weeks later, I was looking at the FireFox options after a "real" FireFox update and I noticed that there was an entry in the "The following websites are allowed to store data for offline use" box on the Options/Advanced/Network page that I was not familiar with. I deleted the unfamiliar URL and since I did so, the fake update page has not appeared. This was about two weeks ago. This may just be a coincidence, but I wanted to post my experience in case it may help others that are having the problem.

This complaint is in regard to your arbitrary blocking of Adobe Flash Player for Windows XP & Vista. Both OS systems still work effectively on older PC's. My old HP DC5100SSF runs at 3.0 ghz faster than many duo core pc's. Adobe discontinued any Flash update for XP and Vista as well as Google Chrome. Chrome still plays all Adobe Flash and You Tube content without complaint. You are forcing me to go to Google Chrome. If they change I will go to Linux.

Mozilla products are great but not accommodating the older users is not acceptable. DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

Hello everybody. I'm having trouble loading back-uped session after Firefox didn't load opened tabs. I have made a copy of whole folder called 'session-store backups' and have these files:

previous.js

recovery.bak

recovery.js

upgrade.js-20160604131506

upgrade.js-20160623154057

upgrade.js-20160823121617

Following instructions I found on this site I copied each file to profile folder and renamed to 'sessionstore.js' with no firefox running. This method worked only with 'upgrade.js-xxx' files however 'upgrade.js-xxx' files contain only half tabs I have in other files. How can I load other files then? Why Firefox is not loading them?

After hours and hours of surfing and worry, I never found an actual full explanation as to what is involved in using the Unbranded Firefox (to allow unsigned plugins - with warning, to continue to function), which is actually "Nightly" branded. So, I finally got it going, and am providing this information... Enjoy!

Ok, we finally have some info that I had to pick around at huge time waste and get working for me, looks like... Here is what I have found/done. Let me know if any is wrong...

If you want a Firefox that honors the about:config setting xpinstall.signatures.required with false, and allows unsigned plugins, then go to https://wiki.mozilla.org/Add-ons/Extension_Signing#Unbranded_Builds and install from the Latest Release Builds section to get the UNBRANDED (Nightly branding). I used the Windows 32-bit installer link. Note the name in that link (it has the release nubers in it), and download/save from the link, so you can tell next time when you try it again, and if it says duplicate, you know the link is not updated yet, and you will have saved your previous download for future backout, etc. I do see that the page/link was updated later in the day on 09/20/16 when 49 came out, so it looks to be being updated.  :-)

I did this the day before 49 came out, and got 48.0.2, just as I wanted. I Installed over 47.0.1 (or .2, I forget, but whatever). All of my settings and config info was retained, as far as I can tell, I did have a cloud.7 norton insight quarantine a dll file that stopped nightly from starting - after I later rebooted - and I restored it. Nightly is installed in a different program folder, so I was able to use 47.0.1 when 48.0.2 would not start, to google the problem, etc. Norton might not like that location, and name nightly for a browser, is all I could figure out, so I restoted/excluded that dll file.

When I then clicked on the download and installed, it installed as Mozilla Developer Preview, but the browser is named Nightly, by the way.

Everything looked good, except Nightly is a dark blue ball, and desktop icons that had firefox or ie as browser shortcut, all turned dary, but hey - ok!

Today, I got a notice that Firefox 49 is available, so Nightly does let us know when an update is available, and it also showed up in Help/About, but I didn't fall for it. The page I mentioned above was not updated yet, but now it is.

So looks like we have notification (be sure to turn off auto update, but notify works - my options carried over), but need to wait until the page/link is updated (and maybe a few days), and download/save from there.

In fact, the download is over 40 meg so it is the full install (? I guess), so doing the updates this way looks to keep a trail and fallback that I didn't previously have, so this could be an improvement - wow!
