There is a lot of discussion on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=812695 about the right workaround or how to apply it. I'm starting this forum thread to move the discussion.

From the bug the current workarounds are:

  • in about:config set gfx.direct2d.disabled to true
  • in about:config set gfx.content.azure.backends to cairo instead of direct2D
  • Uninstall IE10 and update KB2670838

How do I set the default font size to a lower value?

I recently got the Firefox 22.0 build 20130514181517 update (at the same time as a Windows 7 update, I might add) and since then the default font sizes on all websites have been enlarged. I have a 17" monitor, but due to the grossly overscaled fonts it seems more like an old 14", and it's quite irritating. To view the websites in approximately the old way they used to look, I have to zoom out twice, but it also means I have to do it on all sites. I also have the habit of accidentally zooming in or out while using my laptop's touchpad, so whenever I ctrl-0 to reset the font, it goes back to the large font, and I need to rezoom it again.

I am primarily trying to figure out if there is a way to reset the font size without using any add-ons.

Thanks

Hi,

Started up Firefox and the text in the main window was bigger than yesterday, there is now a scroll bar at the bottom for me to mover left and right to see all the screen. Zoom is already reset so CTRL+0 does nothing. Zooming back out to make the page look better only works for that page.

A complete re-installation of Firefox didn't work also.

I rolled back System Restore and Firefox looked fine again until I realised that I didn't have any search engines installed. So I reinstalled Firefox over the old (Choose Upgrade) and the big text problem came back.

I have been using Weebly recently, not sure if that is a coincidence or not, maybe I have messed something up whilst editing?

XP itself seems fine though, maybe this is a Font problem? Not sure. :P

Thanks.

Yesterday all of a sudden my webpages and UI appeared to be magnified. While I can zoom out on websites, I cannot find any option to adjust the size of the UI.

I noticed that Firefox 22 (which I am running) has a new feature: "Windows: Firefox now follows display scaling options to render text larger on high-res displays". Is it possible to adjust how Firefox responds to the display scaling options perhaps?

After updating to FireFox 22 it had changed the size of my webpages and menus, tabs, and url box. I asked over at mozillaZine forums, and they told me how to change my webpage size by going into config. This worked, however, as i mentioned, i then noticed that my menus, tabs, and url box had become smaller. So now i need to know how to change this as well.

I have limited screen space, and use Nav Bar on Title Bar, and small icons, to reduce clutter as much as possible. Today there was a Firefox update, which seems to have increased the size of all icons, so that my 'small' icons are nearly as big as the normal sized ones used to be; thus both wasting vertical space and reducing the number of buttons I can get on a toolbar, and the amount of a URL that will fit in the address box. How can I restore all icons back to their original sizes?

After the v21 update instead of the preview button, i get a list button which is useless for me since i need the search bar on the preview list and it was a great feature. It's a shame that it got removed instead of further enhancing it (Like making it real time)

Is there still a way for me to use this by any means necessary (Extensions and such)

Firefox simply has to make it possible for it's users to delete/remove/UNINSTALL UNWANTED PLUG-INS !!! WHY has this NEVER been a default option ???? I just don't understand.I found a page on how to "manually" delete plug-ins BUT...guess what ??? I ended up really screwing things up.Trying to manually delete the plug-ins that I wanted to do so with,I just randomly typed letters on my keyboard to rename the files and I did NOT write down what I has renamed these entries.

Well, the instructions for doing this were not written very well and the "uninstall" did NOT take !! I even went as far as to uninstall and reinstall the entire program (Firefox) (thinking that maybe a fresh install would give me just the default plug-ins/extensions that Firefox comes with when a person downloads Firefox for the first time) TO NO AVAIL !! PLEASE....is there ANY way that you can help me with this ???
