Connectivity issues after Firefox 44 update

After updating to 44.0, I am mostly unable to get FF to connect to the 'Net. Approximately 90% of the time It just hangs trying to connect.

I have found starting in safe mode works: FF connects to the 'Net.

I have found reinstalling 44.0 will work - just once. After that, FF hangs.

If I disable plugins and addons, FF _still_ does not connect.

1) I see other people are having this problem (see link above.)

2) What is the difference between disabling all addons and plugins and starting FF in safe mode?

Hello.

Since I updated Firefox non of the shortcuts seem to work, desktop or quick-bar. Only way to star it is from the root folder of Firefox, I tried creating new shortcut from there but it doesn't work. Funny thing is that no matter how many times I try to open the Firefox via shortcuts they are shown in the Task manager, all of them, but non of them open the program, they are all around 2.000 K in size but the one that works goes from 75.000 K up.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Using Windows 7. I have been running firefox for years. 3 weeks ago firefox wouldn't connect to the internet. Tab was saying 'forbinder...' in danish, that would translate into 'connecting...'. Nothing happened. No matter which website I tried to access, or which tab. Other browsers worked fine. I assumed an automatic update had gone wrong. I uninstalled, and got a fresh Firefox. It worked, and it had kept all my settings. Then some time after, I had the same issue. Could not connect. I used windows uninstall and installed a new copy. Worked. But then it happened again. Forth time around I decided to get rid of the mess. I used windows 'remove program'. I deleted the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox, the %APPDATA% roaming profile data also. And then did a fresh install. However, I am back to my old problem. I can't get thorugh to the internet. It is saying 'connecting', no matter which tab or website I use..

I found an issue related to an Nvidia firewall - I don't have that but other Nvidia software. I updated all to latest. Didn't work. I checked proxy settings, changed from system default to 'no proxy'. Checked if other browsers had different settings, which they didn't. So it didn't work. Then I tried messing with the Windows firewall, which is the only one running. When it didn't succeed I deleted firefox as recommended, to let it selfdefine at next startup. But windows firewall is apparantly not triggeded by firefox starting.

Help, please ;-)

Thank Flemming

It all started last night. I got an email ad from a retailer with a special I wanted to view on their website. I click on the link and firefox opens (since it is my default browser). But it just sits there with a blank screen with the little ball in the upper left-hand corner going round and round and it saying "connecting". But it does nothing and just sits there.

I close out of firefox, wait a few, then reopen firefox and try to navigate to a different website on my favorites list. Same problem: it just sits there with a blank screen with the little ball in the upper left-hand corner going round and round and it saying "connecting". But it does nothing and just sits there.

I did a "firefox refresh" and that fixed nothing.

I uninstalled firefox and then reinstalled it and it worked fine until today when I tried to click on another link embedded in a trusted retailer's email and firefox has hung up once again. It just sits there saying "connecting" but it does nothing. So far, 5 minutes and counting.

Connection is set to "No Proxy", in case you are wondering.

Firefox v44 is crashing constantly on me and I have very little proof or information to send to you.

I updated to 44 two days ago when it was released, though I don't think I restarted FF until I closed the machine and started it up the next day. As soon as I did, things got very odd. The program would open and all my tabs would return in their appropriate tab groups, but very few were loading. Ones that had cached data available appeared to load, but many didn't. Two pinned tabs would not load.

I closed my browser, and Windows 7 generated its standard "program didn't close successfully" message, but with minimal details.

This would continue sporatically most of the night. I could start FF and if it loaded and worked I could use it. I thought it might be my tabs, so I closed all my tab groups and it seemed to get more stable until I returned to it today when it stopped working again.

For a while it seemed that if I used firefox safe mode it would work and then one time I used safe mode and it did not.

I looked in all the places I know of to look for crash information, in about:crashes and in the home folders for FF in the appdata directories, but all dumps were either old or contained no data.

I finally reverted to V42 because I need a functioning browser. I know that doesn't help me help you troubleshoot but... I need to get things done. I can attempt to update later if I get specific questions.

I wish I had more information to provide.

I have googled and tinkered for hours trying to fix this problem, i tried everything i could think of any what others thought of in the forums, and nothing helped... So literally out of the blue, yesterday i was browsing away on firefox as i normally do, and i closed it. Later i opened it again, and suddenly firefox was unable to connect to the internet... all other applications and browsers did, but firefox just kept loading and loading forever. I changed the proxy settings to No proxy, to use system proxy, to load automatically, i restarted the pc, i did something with the IPv6 settings that was on an official firefox troubleshooting forum, and nothing worked. Finally i loaded in safe mode (without all addons and extensions) and it worked... everything worked, except i didn't have my saved passwords, bookmarks, etc. I ran a complete virus check on my PC using Nod32 Antivirus, and nothing was found. Then i found another solution, which was renaming the firefox launch file to firefox1.exe and that fixed it... Today, i get home i open the browser from the taskbar (which was assigned to the firefox1.exe file) and suddenly it didn't connect to the internet again, but when i opened firefox1.exe directly in the install directory, it worked... So i created an account and synced my stuff, and i refreshed the browser... It worked, until the addons and extensions were reinstalled. So its pretty obvious, its 1 of my addons and/or extensions doing this, however after disabling each 1, one by one, did not fix the problem. Then i reinstalled the browser completely and now i can't log in to the firefox sync, because (after the reinstall of the browser) it says "this connection cannot be trusted"... I am completely out of ideas.. my addons are: Adblock Plus Facebook Cleanup Password Manager Cache Viewer Youtube High Definition New Tab Override (stupid idea, by the way, mozilla... it is very frustrating i cant set what page i want opened on a new tab with this new firefox update, and that i have to install and addon to be able to....) and maybe 1 or 2 more, i can't recall. The extensions, however were the basic stuff, java, adobe flash, and whatever else you need for browsing ,watching videos, interacting with flash and java stuff, etc.

If anyone can figure this out for me, i would really appreciate it... im not a fan of chrome, because it has everything built in, which causes it to be slow and laggy at times. I've spent most of my life in front of a monitor, so i know quite a lot about computers, so if you need to get technical, don't be afraid. thanks in advance.

I just updated Firefox today to 44.0. I was using it just fine for the hours before that but right after the update no websites would load. Firefox gives no error message. All I see is the little spinning wheel with "Connecting..." beside it. I've tried multiple sides like Reddit, Youtube, Google and Twitter to no avail. I've tried removing and adding Firefox to the exclusions list on my antivirus with no results and running as admin. Disabling my antivirus didn't seem to affect it at all except I noticed one of the help pages on the forums here mentioned it sometimes doesn't actually disable. I left Firefox running while writing this to see if an error message will show up. It still says connecting and it's been around 15 minutes. I'm starting to get a headache so if anyone could lend me a hand that'd be great.

I updated Firefox to version 44 (I had installed 32-bit version) and all went right and worked without a problem. Closed it and ran CCleaner to clear cache and most of the cookies (I only have checked those 2 options for Firefox). After the cleaning Firefox didn't work well: pages were not loaded as if I have no connection and when I close the browser it shows Windows error 'Firefox has stopped working' and the browsers turns out to be nonoperational. Uninstalled it and deleted profiles in order to perform a clean installation of newly download 32-bit v.44 of Firefox. Which had the same outcome after using CCleaner.

I decided to try with the 64-bit and so far no issues even after using CCleaner... But I am not sure yet if I am ready to use the 64-bit version with (almost) no plug-in support.

I have Firefox v44, running on Win 7 (64 bit). I think my Firefox version is 32 bit.

If I just start Firefox as normal, and then try to load a webpage, it just keeps loading, regardless of webpage. If I instead start Firefow in PRivate mode, it works well. I can also create a new (non-private) window after this and it works. It does not work if I start in normal mode and then open a private session.

I have tried (without success);

  • Reseting Firefox to factory settings
  • Removed all versions of Java and reinstalled the latest version which now works well
  • Internet Explorer works well

Please advice!

Ever since updating to Firefox 44, I cannot connect to any web pages. My computer is a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with NVidia video card (GeForce 9300 GPU). It is definitely a DNS issues as I can connect to my router (http://192.168.1.1) and a network printer by IP address (http://192.168.1.200). I also have a Server 2003 Exchange server on the network and I can connect by IP address to Outlook Web Access if I use IP address (http://192.168.1.10/exchange). If I use the server name ("http://main-server/exchange) to connect to OWA, it fails...never connects just says "connecting...." in the Firefox tab.

There are 10 computers on this network and only one upgraded to Firefox v44.0 and only this computer is having this problem. All the other computers are identical but running Firefox v43.0.3. I did notice when Google searching that there seems to be a Bug reported with similar symptoms: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1243765

Windows 7, all add-ons were disabled, seems so far to work fine in regular mode. The symptoms are:

a. Any address on the address bar will result in an "infinite load" of the page, which probably never starts (no "transferring..." cue on the lower left corner).

b. Hitting the browser window's close button causes the browser to crash.

c. After the crash the browser won't start.

I've performed a reset, but the problem continues, while Chrome works perfectly.

Firefox will not connect to the internet. I have been away during deployment of update 44 (and it is running as version 44) but not sure whether i used it since this update. Internet is fine, chrome is working (allowing me to post here!) The page refresh just spin endlessly without ever giving message such as cant connect.

When i try to close the program i get a "stopped working" message with details..

any help appreciated. I have tried playing with firewall as that has been mentioned as post patch issue but doesnt fit with above in my head and opened firewall completely and still nothing. One weird element was ESET has a rule for firefox communication which is OUT only, i changed it to IN and OUT however with no change.
