Stopping AUTOMATIC JPG to AVIF Conversions On Download

Hello,

I am trying to download a few JPG images from Meetup.com. Here is an example URL:

https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/3/5/0/a/highres_528673578.jpeg

This is CLEARLY a JPG image from the URL. However, when I right click on the image to Save As the only choice given is AVIF! I cannot open or use AVIF files. As you know the conversion process is LOSSY so trying to convert BACK to a JPG format is not recommended.

It is fine if Firefox and other browsers want to use AVIF format internally but you should, at least, give users the OPTION of downloading the native format.

So how do I fix/configure Firefox to provide the native JPG file download?

Thanks, Steve

To replicate this issue, an image from my device is uploaded to a website that requires an image file input; the resulting image displayed on the website becomes corrupted and unreadable. The theory forming currently is the website is having issues retrieving or reading the input images; however, this bug seems to be consistent with several other websites, indicating Firefox is not able to read the images correctly and thus could result in fragmentation. - The image posted is a .png file of a screenshot of an attempt to post a picture to social media, based on the functionality of this bug, I am predicting this image will be fragmented and will only show blue and black lines. The image being posted online is also in a .png file format.

Support, I'm using v115.23.1ESR & my OS is 10.14.5. When I'm logged into the Pinterest website, a page with different images is visible for viewing. When I click on an individual image on that page to view it in more detail, that page opens but there is no image visible. This problem started with v115.23.0. I was hoping that the update to v115.23.1 would eliminate this, but it is still occurring. So I'm hoping you can help. I'm also adding some images. In screen shot 1, I clicked on the Madonna & dolphin image. Screen shot 2 shows the result: no image.

I tried two other browsers and had no problems, Firefox is my default browser.

Looking forward to your advice, tbird301

I have a couple of websites set up on my own desktop to access things for Family history.

Today for some reason the images have stopped displaying properly, something to do with the NoScript add-on I use, judging from what is now being shown. Won't load and display the images on the hard drive.

Can anyone advise on how to fix this please. Very annoying.

Does not happen if I use Microsoft Edge

Hello. A while ago, all the images I tried uploading on Firefox started glitching. I thought it was an issue with the formatting of the images (PNG, JPG), but this happens with every single image, no matter what, including GIFs. It also glitches the images on certain sites, but I don't know why. I tried all the troubleshooting suggestions I found, but it is not a problem with my extensions, my antivirus, or my VPN. I also cleared the cache and restarted the browser.

I attached some images so you can see how the corrupted image looks. This does not happen with the same files on Firefox for Android or iOS, just on my desktop browser.

Basically: - I download an image, which can be outside of Firefox, and the image displays perfectly everywhere. - When I try uploading the image to edit online or to simply set it as a profile picture, it corrupts and shows a bunch of colorful lines. - Nothing I have done has solved this issue, and I'm starting to get sad :(

Sorry if this has been asked before, and thank you.

Why the hell has update 137.0.2 modified the settings when opening pictures in a new tab without my permission?

JPG, JPEG and PNG had always been set up as "Open in Firefox". What it would do is, load the picture in a new tab, INSIDE FIREFOX. With the latest update, the "Open in Firefox" setting is not even there! The only options available to select are:

  • Always ask
  • Save file
  • Use Applications\PhotoViewer.dll (default)

Why do you guys always feel the need to push things on your users? This is annoying and unprofessional

Dear Mozilla Support Team,

I hope this message finds you well.

After the latest Firefox update, I have been experiencing an issue where I am unable to upload images to Facebook. The error message I am receiving is: "AbortError: Actor 'Conduits' destroyed before query 'RuntimeMessage' was resolved" along with this message: "Experiment add-an-image-to-pdf-with-alt-text-rollout has unknown featureId: addAnImageInPDF" which references the RemoteSettingsExperimentLoader.sys.mjs file.

I have already tried the following steps:

Disabled all add-ons (only Ghostery is active).

Cleared cache and cookies.

Restarted Firefox in safe mode.

Checked and disabled experimental features in the about:config settings.

Updated Firefox to the latest version.

Tried using Firefox with only default settings.

Unfortunately, the issue persists. I would appreciate any guidance or assistance in resolving this problem.

Thank you for your help and I look forward to your response.

Best regards, Asta

The app browser search, despite being up to date and installed on a compatible phone, no longer works consistently for image search.

The image results will briefly show up before the entire page blacks out. And even when the images do show up, the page will occasionally black out when I'm part way through scrolling down the page.

Force quitting the app, re-opening and starting again occasionally works, but it's inconsistent. Web site results will still generate, just not the images.

I have a Firefox 136 on Ubuntu 20.04.

Recently I've discovered that images on websites I view through Firefox are scaled with OS zoom setting (which is set to 125%) even when the browser zoom is 100%.

View -> Zoom -> Zoom Text Only setting does not help with this.

How can I make images in web pages I view through Firefox to display exactly at their size, without any kind of zoom irrespective of any OS zoom setting?

Hello. I have been having this issue recently with Firefox where, when I Google things and open up Google Images, I am unable to open any photos. No matter how many times I press on the mousepad, I cannot open up an image in Google Images unless I go to the website that image is linked too. Something else is that I cannot open an image in my Google Drive. I am resorted to download the file. I trouble started Firefox today to see if that would work, and it did, but I noticed this problems started up again. I just need some help or direction of what to do from here.

Since Firefox has updated to 137 have noticed different behaviour with pictures in Facebook, which is quite annoying. If you select pictures from a post to view and arrow through them, selecting X to close, does not close them but performs similar to back... so if you have viewed 57 pictures in a post.. you need to go back 57 times to get back to your feed. Also noted in www.realestate.com.au if viewing a property and selecting photos of proprety to scroll through it changes to a page with just the photos.. to get back to the page related to the property with info about the house and agent you can use refresh.. however this is annoying. previously you just closed the photo window.

Is there a setting to adjust this performance?... or can it be rolled back to 136 as is most annoying feature.
