I have not changed any settings related to fonts in firefox (running on windows 10 desktop), but I have this issue where flag emojis are displayed as a letter code on the page itself, but still display correctly in the tab at the top. is there a known fix for this?
This problem only happens in Mozilla Firefox. Not in Google Chrome, Edge, etc.
So please don't tell me the problem is in my system.
Why the scrollbar tends to disappear? That drives me nuts.
How to make it appear? How to prevent disappearance? I am using the latest version: 139.0.1

I have recently got a new work laptop and have imported my bookmarks and passwords. However, I am unable to get the bookmarks toolbar to show up? The usual way of enabling it to always show or only show on new tabs doesn't work and I have a message on the toolbar that says "For quick access, place your bookmarks here on the bookmarks toolbar. Manage Bookmarks..." But nothing works. Please can you assist as it is driving me nuts.

Hi,
I'm using FF (128.8.0esr) on Debian testing.
Is there a way to open a site as window w/o any toolbars/menu etc. , preferably from the command-line, some magic switch?
This thread https://tinyurl.com/24b5q2t2 discusses the "ssb" switch but it's not available in this browser.
Thanks

Hi Friends, I'm using Firefox for Linux Mint, mint-001 - 1.0, 133.0.3 (64-bit) on Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon 6.2.9. There is no theme for Linux Mint, but for Firefox, I'm using a theme called "Dark-Blue (o-plot) Dark-Blue theme".
Yes, I realize it's out of date. I'll be happy to update if it's needed to solve this problem. Well, maybe it's time for an update anyway.... We'll see.
Anyway, I found in Linux, the System Settings dialog, which has a few settings for scrollbars. So I made them wider (easier to grab with the mouse). But in the dialog there's a caveat that says it might not work for every program. And indeed, it works in every dialog and program except for Firefox.
First question: Is there any way to make the Firefox scrollbars wider?
Relatively recently, I migrated to Linux Mint from Windows. I don't know if the change in the scrolbar appearance and behavior is more related to industry trends, or if this is just Linux's way. But I sorely miss the 2 buttons at the top and bottom of the scrollbar (from Windows) that allow you to scroll one click at a time. I also miss the ability to scroll one page or screen at a time, by clicking above or below the scrollbar
Second question: Is there any way to get the scroll buttons back?
Fyi, I did search before coming here to ask for help. I found one message which appears to offer a solution. But it's too technical for me to try it on my own. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1513734
If that is indeed a correct solution, maybe you call could simplify it for me? Or maybe there is an even simpler or better solution?
Thank you very much.

Reference: Firefox Desktop 139.0.1. See the attached image. What does the overlaid blue (cable with plug?) icon mean on top of my Grid Overlay bookmarklet? The overlay appeared after the update to v139.0.1 (desktop) on Arch Linux. And only on top of my bookmarklet. In case it's relevant. The bookmarklet consists of JS that injects some HTML in the rendered webpage and then beckons my grid overlay. Self developed to overlay my own web layouts.

Until recently (like last week-ish) My Bookmarks Sidebar ONLY showed bookmarks. NOW, within the past few days the "bookmarks tools column" has been added to the screen-view. I have removed the 'tools' but the 'blank column' remains and takes up noticeable space on my laptop screen. How can I remove that 'column' ? Was this caused by a recent firefox update OR a win-365 'auto-update' ? Attached pic of screen - Here at the LEFT side is the 'blank column' with the 'settings Gear' at the bottom of the column. That is the column I want to 'Remove'.

Some extensions, like Bitwarden or Notes, seem to have added their own shortcut icons between the settings cog and the other functions below the tabs, with seemingly no way to remove them? I already have them in my regular toolbar / extension overflow, which has much more space available, so I don't see the point of why there's duplicate ones in the sidebar taking away tab space?

I am using the Flatpak version of Firefox on Linux Mint Cinnamon (Ubuntu/Debian) [Mozilla flatpak - 1.0 (138.0.4 (64-bit))].
When I search with Google, a lot of the search results tell me to make changes to /~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css, but I already did that a long time ago, before I installed the Firefox flatpak.
All of my regular apps and Flatpak apps (except Firefox) that I run have correct scroll bars with buttons on the ends.
(With some of my apps, like KDE Dolphin file manager, the buttons are invisible, i.e., the graphical arrows do not render, but if I click in the blank spots at the ends of the scroll bars, the buttons are there and function correctly, even if they are not graphically represented. In Firefox, there are no buttons, visible or invisible.)
It seems to me that Firefox is not using system scroll bars (whereas my other apps do and show correct scroll bars), so I'm not sure that messing around in /~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css is going to help me. Considering that Firefox seems to be using its own (non-system) scroll bars, I thought I would have to do it through about:config rather than my system settings in gtk.css.
Can you please tell me what to change in about:config?
You would think it would be "widget.non-native-theme.gtk.scrollbar.allow-buttons" = true, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
This forum software is not very good. There does not appear to be any ability to preview my post, or enter blocks of code like in other forums.
Here are my modified about:config prefs: user_pref("browser.aboutConfig.showWarning", false); user_pref("browser.backspace_action", 0); user_pref("browser.urlbar.update2.engineAliasRefresh", true); user_pref("layout.css.scrollbar-width-thin.disabled", true); user_pref("sidebar.visibility", "hide-sidebar"); user_pref("ui.clickToScroll", 0); user_pref("ui.scrollToClick", 0); user_pref("widget.gtk.overlay-scrollbars.enabled", false); user_pref("widget.non-native-theme.gtk.scrollbar.allow-buttons", true); user_pref("widget.non-native-theme.gtk.scrollbar.thumb-size", "20"); user_pref("widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.size.override", 24); user_pref("widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.style", 4); This is the contents of /~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini: [Settings] gtk-primary-button-warps-slider=false This is the contents of /~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css: scrollbar.vertical slider, scrollbar.slider.vertical { /* min-width: 20px; */ } scrollbar.horizontal slider, scrollbar.slider.horizontal { /* min-height: 20px; */ } scrollbar, .scrollbar { -GtkScrollbar-has-backward-stepper: TRUE; -GtkScrollbar-has-forward-stepper: TRUE; } scrollbar.vertical button.down { -gtk-icon-source: -gtk-icontheme("pan-down-symbolic"); } scrollbar.vertical button.up { -gtk-icon-source: -gtk-icontheme("pan-up-symbolic"); } scrollbar.horizontal button.down { -gtk-icon-source: -gtk-icontheme("pan-end-symbolic"); } scrollbar.horizontal button.up { -gtk-icon-source: -gtk-icontheme("pan-start-symbolic"); } scrollbar slider { min-width: 20px; min-height: 20px;}

Prior to Firefox 137, I could adjust this setting all on my own via about:config `extensions.unifiedExtensions.enabled` and setting it to false meant I could hide this puzzle piece extension button.
However, as of Firefox 138 this about:config setting no longer works. Was the option simply renamed or was the feature just completely removed?
Would appreciate any help, thank you kindly.

My sidebar kept disappearing when opening a new window. After asking the internet, I learned that this was part of the latest UI update. This is a horrible update (sorry programming team) because if you always want your sidebar to show up, all that extra stuff has to show up as well. See first image.
The second problem is that the Hide Sidebar button is too close to the Back button. I keep clicking on the Hide Sidebar button when I really want the Back button.
Is there a way to hide these controls? I know you can move them to the right, but then, so does your sidebar. I don't have a lot of screen real estate. Can we have an option to go back to the "classic" settings for sidebars?
By the way... In the previous versions of Firefox, I was able to click on a link (example: Google search) and my sidebar (in my case with my bookmarks) was always there in the new window or tab. Now when I click on a link, the sidebar with my bookmarks disappears in the new window. I have to keep enabling it if I want to see my bookmarks. I'm 100% sure that this is causing frustration with over 87% of Firefox users. Can we please bring back that old functionality?
It looks as if someone died! Also wastes valuable desk space. Other apps have no borders. How do I remove them?

Hi, for some reason Firefox doesn't display a lot of fonts for me.
Here's a list of the fonts, that I've found that aren't being displayed: serif xx-large, serif, fantasy, helvetica, Andale Mono, Vera Serif, Vera Sans, Vera Sans
Chrome, Edge and (because why not) Internet explorer all seem to render these just fine
Any help is very much appreciated!
I'm on Firefox 138.0.4; Windows 10
Edit: Turns out, I was sort of the issue.
My main issue was with Sites using Helvetica, as I found the readability of those sites to be atrocious. As it turns out, Firefox was the only one of my browsers actually using Helvetica (I do have Helvetica installed). Sites that have Helvetica first in their font-families would actually be displayed using Helvetica.
I changed "layout.css.font-visibility" to 2 and now those sites just use Arial
So the conclusion is, that I actually just hate Helvetica...

I am losing my vision and any screen I can switch to "dark mode" is a real blessing. I've contacted Earthlink on multiple occasions about providing a dark mode for Firefox and they've said basically "Go pound sand!" The only solution they provided has been to use Edge. I get physically ill even bringing up the POS called Edge. Is there a way I can force Earthlink web mail into dark mode with some kind of widget or coding change we can make in the background of Firefox to get this to happen? Everything I'm currently using is dark mode but this issue with Earthlink.

It is like LGBTQP promotion shoved down my throat. Why can't I remove this satanic Loading/Progress bar? Why? Why? Why?
