In Firefox, the mouse becomes partially unresponsive to elements in the browser and on web pages. This happens after 15-30 minutes after starting up the browser. Common symptoms include:

- Unable to drag and drop elements properly, including text after highlighting it. - Sometimes, the mouse continues to hold elements while dragging. Pressing ESC temporarily fixes this. - Dropdown menus on websites do not drop down when hoovering over them - Other items on websites don't display items when hoovering over them

I have tried:

- Different mouses, including my laptop's trackpad - A Firefox fork, namely Waterfox, but it still occurs - Limited testing with other browsers. No problem occurs - Limited testing on desktop. No problem occurs - Entering Troubleshooting Mode on Firefox - Clearing cookies and cache - Reinstall Firefox (including installing from command line instead of the snap store) - Updated Firefox - Refreshed Firefox - About:Processes doesn't show anything using more than 10-15% of CPU at any one time - Limited testing with a new Firefox profile. No problem occurs - Disabled WebGL and Hardware Acceleration.

Temporary fix: Restarting Firefox, but the problem re-occurs shortly after use.

Using Ubuntu.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Today, randomly, duck duck go no longer works natively with Firefox. If I set DDG as my default search, and try to search using the search bar or use one of the shortcuts like "@ddg" I get an error "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." I have tried closing, clearing cache, clearing history, and nothing seems to reset it. I can still go through Google, search for duck duck go, and use it that way, but it seems that the native search is now broken.

Keep getting this on a number of websites. Most of them I have used for years. Can't give the websites as there are too many but some are pitchsidemanager.com, hattrick.org, skysports.com and sportinglife.com . Just four of at least 14 give the Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site message. I use No Proxy and have my anti-virus turned off when I get the message. I have tried various other proxy settings but the same thing happens. The thing is that I have to keep refreshing the page until it does actually connect and that can take a good few minutes. Sometimes I have to restart the browser. Why is this happening since the last few updates?

I use the Firefox password manager and choose to sync my saved logins between my desktop computer and my phone (running Firefox mobile). To begin with the obvious: Firefox, by default, does not require you to set up a primary password. Without one, anyone who can get past the lock screen of your desktop can see your saved logins. Furthermore, Firefox mobile does not include the primary password feature. If a user has not set up a lock screen on their mobile device, anyone can see the saved logins. This caught me by surprise as I recently bought a tablet for home use on which I installed (and synced) Firefox. For convenience, I did not set up a lock screen (I won't keep sensitive data or email accounts on the tablet). Being used to my desktop (which asks for the primary password) and my phone (on which Firefox automatically asks for the fingerprint/pattern already set up on the phone), I didn't stop to think that my saved logins on the tablet did not have equivalent protection. I realise this was naive, but the reason I think it could catch more people out is that almost everyone has a lock screen on their phone, but they don't think about setting up protection of saved logins because Firefox automatically adopts the phone's existing fingerprint/pattern for this function. I can imagine a similar scenario where a user installs Firefox on a second desktop device and syncs saved logins. Primary passwords are set locally and are not synced between profiles or devices. However, having already set up a primary password on their original desktop computer, the user might not realise that they do not automatically have the same standard of protection on the second desktop. This can all be deduced from the information already on the help pages, however perhaps the following could be considered: A message explicitly informing the user when syncing (a) what protection will be used by default (eg, the system fingerprint/pattern on a mobile device), or (b) that there is currently no system fingerprint/pattern/etc or primary password set up and that consequently the saved logins have zero protection.

I run a website that is custom built and we are seeing a potential issue in which the headers and header links are showing in the reader view of every page above the content for the page. But I'm also not sure if this is necessarily bad or might be affecting SEO.

Does anyone know whether this is detrimental to SEO, and if so, are there any suggestions on what might be causing this to happen in the code?

I have run into an annoyance where I am trying to click on a link in my email to open a new page. Clicking on the link makes a bar show up telling me that Firefox has prevented a popup from being opened (see attached image). I am given the option of managing my preferences / Firefox settings, where I can either go through multiple steps to permanently allow all pop-ups from that website until I restore my original settings, or uncheck a box to permanently allow all pop-ups from all sites until I check that box again. This is annoying because I have no interest in either allowing or disallowing all pop-ups from all websites, or all pop-ups from this specific website, every time I want to open a single pop-up from a specific site. I would rather that the warning bar which tells me that Firefox has blocked a pop-up also display a button allowing me to allow ONLY THIS SPECIFIC POP-UP IN THIS SPECIFIC CASE.

Is this a setting that exists in Firefox? Alternatively, is there a version of Firefox which does have a setting which would allow this? Or is this simply not a functionality that exists for this browser?

Hey!

I'm working on a translation management software called Plunet.

There are text boxes within Plunet where the spell checker does work, and others in which the spell checker is not even an option. It doesn't recognize misspelled words by underlining them in red, and when I right-click on words, the only option available is "Link". (See screenshot.) Any ideas?

Thanks!

Yesterday my son had issue with FFox and uninstalled and re-installed. Upon doing this all my other firefox instances lost their pinned sites on the home page.

is there a way to configure a firefox instance as the bastion of truth, so that all other instances sync to it? and it asks before it makes changes?

Or even better after a sync have a list of what changed, and perhaps an undo.

Hola.

Alguna idea?

Gracias.

This happens at random intervals, mostly when firefox is being left idle.

Since it starts >1000 threads, it easily fills ram and swap, then get killed by OOM killer. Hence no crash reports.

I'll upload a gist with OOM details from dmesg and journalctl, if there is a way to get debug info for this, please let me know.

Where are saved passwords stored in firefox 117 on Mac OS?

Recently FireFox has stopped saving changes to my saved logins/passwords. I am using a master password. When I exit FF (I have it set to resume with the same windows and tabs open) and then restart, all the saved passwords have reverted to some time in the past where they remain frozen. If I try to login to a website, FF will ask for my master password, then fill in the OLD password. I can update it (replace the auto-filled string with the correct one) -- for example, login to a site using the correct (NEW) password, and then choose "UPDATE" in the pop-up -- and those will persist until I exit. But after exiting and restarting, all the passwords have reverted to the old values. This also applies to adding and removing saved passwords, or editing them manually in the "about:logins" page. For example, I keep deleting the password for a no-longer-in-use account and it disappears until I restart Firefox, then it comes back.

This makes me think that something has changed the ownership or permissions on the file where these encrypted passwords are saved locally and so Firefox silently skips the step to write them out on exit (or update them incrementally as I change them). I do not use a FF/Mozilla account to save them in the cloud, I just keep them on the local machine, which is Mac OS X Big Sur (11.6.8).

I did find somewhere online (on mozilla.org, I *think*) that the file is "logins.json" at the top level of my active profile. But that file has not been modified since 01/15/2023 (over 8 months ago), and removing it does not seem to have had an impact on the problem, so I am guessing that wherever I found that info (that logins.json is where they are stored) was probably some out-of-date post from a past version of Firefox.

I am hoping someone can tell me which file is not being updated so I can inspect its ownership/permissions and then either fix it or delete the file. I am guessing that I can export the list to a csv file, exit Firefox, delete the storage file, then restart Firefox and import the saved csv file in order to fix it -- but I need to know which file it is.

Or, can someone tell me where to look for an error log that might contain an explanation of something going wrong while trying to update my profile on exit? NOTE: the rest of the profile seems to be OK, my windows and tabs are restored correctly on restart, they are NOT frozen in time.

Thank you for any help you can offer me.
