I just installed Firefox (88.0) on a brand new Surface Pro, signed in to my Firefox Account, which gets me my stuff synced over, such as the Grammarly, LastPass and Pushbullet extensions. I log into those respective applications as needed. I start browsing.

Now, when I open either of those extensions from the menu bar, they open their little in-place window. If I now touch anything in these windows, about 80% of the time the following happens:

  • The little in-place window closes
  • Firefox becomes unresponsive (menus, other controls, web pages, close window)
  • This lasts for 60 seconds (reliably)

However:

  • If the extension is visible on the menu bar: problem happens
  • If the extension is tucked away in ">>" (More tools...): no problem (this is also a decent-ish workaround)

Given that this affects multiple extensions, I'd expect this to be a Firefox issue. Also, I have no idea how to troubleshoot this (I have not been able to find logs).

Things I tried to no avail:

  • Refresh (through installer)
  • Cleaned out profile manually
  • Tried extensions before logging them in

Thank you for your help.

Hi all,

I'm having a repeat of this issue: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1291551

Again some links from emails have been giving me the "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead" page with the error message "SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN". I get this in safe mode but not in private browsing. I have tried all of the fixes suggested last time I asked about this problem including deleting cert9.db but that hasn't worked this time (so maybe it wasn't the fix last time either).

To be explicit, I've tried all fixes on these pages so please don't suggest them again without providing an explanation about why you think it will work (a technical explanation please): https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-and-other-browsers-cant-load-websites https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/secure-connection-failed-error-message https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/connection-untrusted-error-message http://kb.mozillazine.org/Error_loading_websites https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-does-your-connection-is-not-secure-mean https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/websites-dont-load-troubleshoot-and-fix-errors

And also this one, which is actually related to the message (none of the above are): https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-does-your-connection-is-not-secure-mean#w_ssl-error-bad-cert-domain

(Pop!_OS distro used) I use a handful of resources to monitor my laptop's resources. The attached image is from the htop command (note that I've been using the laptop at most an hour, and it was compltely powered off before. Unsure why it says such high times.). Over the past four-ish months, I've seen firefox's new-window command (/usr/lib/firefox/firefox -new-window) function very strangely. Two instances of the command randomly run for extended periods of time (anywhere from a few seconds to two or three minutes, often towards the longer end), taking up ~100% of the cpu usage for each given one second interval (the time my htop is configured to check). While I'm aware htop records cpu statistics extremely different than task manager (frankly, I'm not quite sure how it measures), this cpu spike takes place with other irregular fluctuations in my laptop, which says to me that the command is in fact doing something. When the cpu spikes occur, I see my cpu temperature rise up to 80 degrees Celsius, and it's frequency hit it's cap for only a handful of threads, while the rest stay completely unchanged.

To clarify the extent of the randomness when I say the commands run randomly: this happens without any pattern that I can identify. I've had anywhere from 1 to 10 tabs open, resting in the background from anywhere between a couple minutes to half an hour, and two new-window commands will run, unprompted, as described above. I've been scrolling through an article, and out of no where, the twin commands run. I've loaded up webpages and the commands have run. I've been watching videos, simply opened a new tab (ironic given the command name), just anything you can do on the web browser, and the commands have run. And there have been days where this issue doesn't happen at all. This can happen numerous times while I'm on firefox. It could happen once, followed by a lot of intervals of the commands running, or it could be a while before the next time it happens.

The one thing that sticks out like a sore thumb to me is that, as I mentioned at the end of the first paragraph, I see one thread 'catch' and cause this spike. It's a random thread, it can be a different one each time this happens during a given session on firefox, but I've only every noticed it to be one thread.

Not sure what's up. I tried to be as detailed as possible since I could find anything about this on these forums.

Can someone please tell me why Firefox has remove Page Info on the right click?

Sense Firefox doesn't have a setting to set all cookies to "Allow for Session", I have been doing it by my self on every page I see. I right click, select Page info, go to permissions then change "Set Cookie" from default, which is "Allow" to "Allow for Session".

I read their update page before I updated, and no where on the page do they mention removing page info and for what reason.

Does anybody have an idea why?

Recently Windows forced an update to 20H2. All my other programs display font okay. However Firefox (desktop -- latest version) does not display fonts properly. The letters flash between thin and normal.

Strangely enough when I took a screen shot to demonstrate the weird font display the fonts were perfectly fine in the screen shot.

I took a picture with my phone. In the image one can see difference in the width of the two L in "all" As mentioned this is only happening in Firefox.

Thanks for any clues.

I have been a fan of the awesomebar for quite some time; tab selection using % enables progress after chaotic web surfing and bookmark searching using * circumvents the need of retracing already known websites. (I have removed suggestions and history though, I find that those are mostly in the way.)

One limitation for me as a programmer is that while searching for Python helps me find the correct bookmarks, including C in a search is not helpful, as a c anywhere in a bookmark will give a hit. This even goes for '.com'! The same problem occurs when searching for bookmarks in the bookmark library.

My suggested improvement would be to allow search terms to be interpreted narrowly. This could be done by adding quotes, for example "C" (single quotes could also work).

Is this already possible in some way? And if not, where would be the best place to suggest the improvement? [feedback page reads "Please check back soon"] ( and I'm not sure whether this suits the Bugzilla platform.

Hi I got a problem which I think is caused by Firefox/Facebook.

Sometimes (quite often) when I'm in Facebook and scrolling down, suddenly Facebook starts to scroll on its own and then the cursor starts flickering. The only way to correct this is to restart the computer. Very often when i log in for the first time afters such a restart all my desktop icons are shown wide apart, and the I have to logoff/logon again. Then it works until the next time.

I have switched the hardware acceleration of in Firefox with the same result.

Acctually, it happend right now, and now I don't have Facebook open.

If I can't fix it i have to stop using Firefox!

Hi,

After losing my session history and bookmarks from using firefox's "forget last 5 minutes" feature on accident, I used shadowcopyview to create a backup of my old profile. Now, after two reinstalls, I still cannot recover my session or bookmarks, even when replacing the old profile entirely.

JeffersonCher's wonderful scrounger has helped me to recover from a similiar blunder in the past, but this time, attempting to recover the session from a recovery file gave me 3 websites I haven't visited in 2 years and an error message when attempting to recover the bookmarks.

Anything you can provide would be a big help: I am very confused on how to really proceed.

Thanks!
