I run XP SP3 on a Dell Latitude D610 laptop. When I upgraded to FF 25.1, I found the downloader wouldn't run; the website (FileHippo.com) was sending files, but FF showed no signs of download activity. I added the Download toolbar (which I had used before), but it didn't work either. I was able to download the files I needed using IE, so the problem doesn't seem to be either the files or the website, so it's probably FireFox-related

I commented earlier that you mentioned FileHippo. Those files all appear to be program installers. Is this the only site or type of file where you are having download problems?

In any case, you said before that you found the downloader wouldn't run and that you added the Download toolbar (which you had used before), but it didn't work either.

Could you explain in more detail what doesn't work? Remove the Downloader toolbar (if it's still installed) and then try downloading ... for example, try the download link here: http://filehippo.com/download_irfanview/ and tell us exactly what happens. Do you see an "Opening" dialog box? Do you select "Save File"? etc. If you doo all that but can;t find the download, does this help? Where to find and manage downloaded files in Firefox.

Another "quick fix" you can try, Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings (if you don't want to go through a lengthy troubleshooting process)

P.S. You mentioned FileHippo. Those files all appear to be program installers. Is this the only site or type of file where you are having download problems?

In any case, you may wish to try the solution in the Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences section of the article first.

Well, I've gone through the recommended article and tried everything (including disabling virus scanning); I still can't download. What's next to try?
