Chosen solution

Some videos that use the Flash plugin have a menu entry in the right-click context menu that allows to disable hardware acceleration in the flash player.

To disable protected mode you will have to edit the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg file as explained in the knowledge base article.

None if these crash reports seem to have been send.

Do you have crash reports with a "bp-" prefix that were submitted and that show a crashing thread?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe mode:

  • On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
  • On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox

That is a problem with the Flash plugin

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
