what makes firefox generate a NEW profile when i already have one..?

it seems when firefox upgrades it occassionally generates a new profile for me....even if i already have one. _what is firefox looking at to make this decision.? _i work in a AD windows 7 environment with a roaming profile.

Chosen solution

Firefox uses the file profiles.ini to locate the profile folder.

If that file isn't found then a new default profile will be created.
