when I enter a URL in Exporer or Chrome it defaults to Firefox. How do I stop this?

I like Firefox but it has this annoying habit of opening URLs entered in Chrome or Explorer even when it is not open. Some of my sites require explorer (banks) so I have to delete firefox from my computer. Then, when I reinstall firefox it does it again. When I am in Firefox that's fine. But when it chrome or explorer I want to go to them not Firefox.
