I recently had Firefox update and ever since the update, I have had problems with it. It is so bad that I have to use internet explorer. Every time I use firefox on any page, it freezes/locks up...it tells me it is not responding. I have to go to the task manager in oder to even close the window. I do like firefox better than IE, so I would love to have this problem fixed.

Hi martijn2011,

Obviously this sort of problem should not occur or need the sort of corrective measures you may need to continuously take. Why not post a question about your own specific problem and see if someone can find a better and more permenant solution to it.

You may even have come across a problem with firefox or one of its add-ons that a developer will need to look at.

Same problem almost - I upgraded to 5.0 and I got frequent freezes that could only be resolved from task manager -> kill process.

I've tracked the problem down to javascript in my case: I have tar-pitted a number of ad-sites by setting their ip address in the hosts file to 127.0.0.1 because animated flash ads and the like tend to trigger my migraines. When Firefox 5 tries to connect to such a site from a java script, it hangs. It hangs completely: mouse cursor gone, no functionality at all. Very very annoying. Firefox 3.6 did not do this, nor do the other browsers that I use occasionally (K-meleon and Opera).

Turning javascript off entirely has in fact improved the performance of firefox 5 Out Of Sight. It loads webpages considerably faster.

I think this really needs looking at from the coders' point of view. There's something wrong with the javascript implementation. Firefox is/was my browser of choice, but it's about to lose its position as default browser here, because too much functionality on many sites depends on js being turned on.

No idea if it would help at all but you could try turning HTML5 off using the prefs; but that is a total long shot.

If you are willing to demonstrate reproducible problems occur I suggest you start a new thread of your own. If the problems are reproducible it may then be well worth filing a bug so that the coders do look at the problem.
