Today I noticed that increasingly, I was not able to effectively do any type of search because important text was overwritten in red. In troubleshooting, I read that it could be Persona (I uninstalled) as well as Themes (I uninstalled everything other than Compact Classic and I use default). After that when I could not find any info from Firefox help, I was doing Google search but noticed that every site was overwritten with gray-there was only a google.com place that did not have overwriting-In Firefox data, I am told that no one has this problem As an edit, after I clicked to post,there were words were covered with different colors-I did not take any action to take any action to create the colors. Perhaps on this page, it is set up for colors to be sctivated but I did not create the colors and it has been the colors which at times have been so very dark that reading the text under the coloration, is impossible. I have used this computer since Dec 2009 without difficulty but now, this makes it difficult to see. I cannot believe that something like this had taken over my computer to this degree but it is serious enough that I am considering that this PC may be history! I also reread the info that shows in my post and XP as OS does not show in the main part of the post. It still shows as Windows Server 2003 but it should be XP. I have been very close to changing it to Windows 7 because this was purchased as a Windows 7 downgrade to XP as a business computer-it is also a 17 inch laptop rather than the desktop as represented on the right column here. I am starting to feel as though this is a legal type collection of data which is unusual so I am attempting to get all things corrected in the beginning but that is becoming very challenging.

Thank you very much for reading my situation. I checked what you recommended and did not find anything that I felt needed changing but here is what I found. Under that Content: Fonts & Colors> Colors- It is set up as black for text (Arial size 12) and white for background. Link colors= black, visited links white and check mark at "underline links. At one step earlier it is set for yes at allow pages to choose their own colors instead of my selections above. * Content pages * yes-block pop up windows

                         no=load pages automatically
                          yes= enable JavaScript

Exceptions 2 are blocked

                   15 are allowed (as banking billpay pages, businesses I deal with

That is everything I found which really did not seem to need changing-it worked for a very long time until recently. It became extreme today when I was not able to focus or see the text even when using a flashlight to see behind the deep red on top of text that covered some of the page. I also tried a magnifying glass with a light (now I look back and cannot believe that I tried these things but it was not the entire page but certain key areas that I needed in order to proceed I was attempting to nake clear so that I could go on. I have needed the help of ophthamologist who gave me * 1. 2 changes of lenses Rx in 6 months time (new change time in my life-always at least 4 year interim) * 2. cataracts are forming now* 3. needed laser surgery in both eyes, * 4. now use Restsasis Rx for 3 weeks experiment* 5. I am going back in 3 weeks for checkup* 6. with installing tear duct closures as possibility so this has become serious because the PC screen is creating trouble!* 7. I desperately need things to go smoothly with this PC. *

I have Pro Support with DELL which is superb and I have one man who, by appointment, is going to make clean start with Windows 7 when I am ready to have it done-expected yo have it done at this point but things like this have postponed my doing it. It seems like a detail until I spend an entire day with just color as trouble which today became.

I have simply been overwhelmed by things like this that bring any possibility of moving forward, impossible and it is really frustrating. I thank you "cor-el" for helping. You have been there for me in the past and you have been successful is solving other problems. I also use support under Snagit which I avidly use and their tech support helps to resolve trouble but of course that is for problems with only their software and I do not think that this situation requires their assistance. If you need other information, please ask but for now, I need to stop for this day. Bye, S I hope I will not need to include pictures of my color problem. I am hoping that uninstalling some of those plug-ins and the add-ins that were recommended have helped although when I left this post-to my amazement there were a few words that carried light, softened coloration over a couple of words-one included Google which when I had done a Google search-the one in the list that had a Google.com as the source-had no color on it but here when left in the post had gray over it and there was light green over the eye "watching" and the remaining I have forgotten. Bye again, S

OK, I clicked for the 2 Mozillazine sites, checked what was recommended-*

  1. That had been checked from your first suggestion*
  2. High Contrast was not in need of change but interesting to read*
  3. No changes were made to that area*
  4. I never heard of the Right Click the Firefox shortcut but will find out what that is tomorrow.

Again, my thanks for your help. I have also had long history of help from Mozillazine-didn't login tonight but just Snagit-ed their pages and ran.*

  1. checked and 38 possible issues arrived under that category. happily, I really do not feel my issue fits their list although it may look different in the morning. Now finished for sure until sleep is done.

with recognition that while using bulleted manner as I type responses and they are all lined up and in easy order and well organized for you to see, I now see that at no time has that translated to a posted response. By then, all order has vanished-from the initial response to my last numbered response. If I am to do that in some other way, I am willing to learn but when it leaves my screen, everything is ordered as appropriate in bulleted form (how used in Word). Not much is working well tonight.

I look to bottom of page and note that the "Persona" area is highlighted. It seems a strange as a continued thing as Firefox was restarted long ago and that is long finished item in my mind but apparently not everywhere. Just a note that may have or may not have any significance.

this was not done or found until now and may make needed changes. Mozillazine to the rescue if this works. I will do and let you know. Of course, that is IF I was successful in sending what I think I sent!

New FF desktop icon? In some sort of earlier issue, which may come to my mind after some rest, in that process, many of my desktop icons disappeared and I had no idea how to get them back but after several tries of restoring to an earlier time but failing to find an effective restore, I gave up. At any rate, is there a way for me to put a new FF icon on desktop anew? Bye, S

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

OK, this has been just awful and I desperately need for this to go away. I tried the safe mode and found out several things. I have things set right in "let FF have its own style" and "allow pages to choose their own colors instead of my selections"OK,OK That was after Tools, Options,it said Control Panel but there was no such item-but eventually I found what addressed the color issues. All was set right. I just re-read your instructions-I wonder if I made error as soon as I was in safe mode, I saw option of disabling add-ons and clicked it. Since it was first time in safe mode, I hesitated on next move, went backwards and returned-I think I stopped there to see if the problem was gone. Following Safe Mode, I found that having all Add-ons disabled made the issue disappear! I had read that in that event, I should figure that localstore.rdf is corrupt and can reset toolbars & controls to resolve the problem but then I read that all my buttons "huge number" would disappear and could never be restored so now I am going to check each add-on and hope I find if just one is doing this. I would like to know how to get my buttons to show up again since every single one has disappeared. For years, all the buttons worked fine-I have disabled many Add-ons prior to exercise tonight but having none is ridiculous. Help, please! Tell, me what to do after I test the add-ons individually. I will return following the individual testing-I wish I had any idea which ones are more likely to be difficult but I have no idea so I will do in order which will take quite some time-I may do in groups to make time shorter. I dare not review this because I did it before and then had trouble getting this to post-no more time for writing this, I have lots of testing to do-5 at a time, I think will work best. Bye,S

OK, next step, is a plus as I think that having red covering most important text is over! I just wish I had some idea why this is different so that I could avoid it in the future and frankly, I have no clue. It IS a major relief to be able to simply read the screen without making the font enormous, getting very close to screen and struggling to partly guess what is on that screen under the red streak! What a way to enjoy a computer!. I actually had some problems recalling whether some Add-ons had been active when all this started. One thing I do want to change-I have a number of important and frequently used toolbar buttons that have always had text attached to the button but since this exercise, it is just the button and for icons that I recognize, that might be OK but for many, only a non-nondescript yellowish blob is there-any suggestions for fixing that? I searched many Add-ons combining text with button and toolbar but came up empty. I do not consider this fixed because I do not know what may happen when this is put to bed tonight. I am exhausted so this is it for tonight but I look forward to your recommendations. Was there an automated approach for recalling which add-ons were active?Please do not say print the list as I have 3 printers currently down-seems everything is down. Surprised I haven't quit by now.

Next, I went back to Safe Mode for reasons I do not know and there-all of those toolbar buttons which I want keep their text-continue to have the text showing! Of course, there are no buttons whatsoever so it was not a supreme celebration. Any help to offer in restoration of mine? I really do not have free time to dabble with this. I am so very behind and that is why you hear from me everyday, even though my need is quite desperate-I simply have needed to "deal with it and move on" but it is not easy in any way. I really look forward to your helpful recommendations in getting back to what feels like mine. I may have misjudged on an Add-on but there must be another way. I individually brought the plugins back. Bye, S

I just looked at my info-I used Garmin....two things because I was selecting presents but since that is complete, I no longer need! I wonder and may test after I've had sleep but later. I believe I mentioned that my new PC is XP 64bit-I have someone very eager to switch it to Windows 7 but I do not feel ready to deal with unfamiliar OS. Perhaps this would all go away if I did it. I bought this as Windows 7 PC but with XP downgrade which no one has ever heard of before but I bought it, obviously after 7 was out but business computers for business where still being sold. Bye, S NufSed bout that!

I read about so many people who have trouble with color overwriting their text but why am I the one and only person having this trouble?

These suggestions helped immensely and thanks again for helping me to solve this which was a major problem. Now that I am able to see everything in the world of text on the screen, I am recognizing to what degree I was struggling to get the point on every page! Oh, what I was putting up with in the name of being under pressure! I am so much better off now that I can see text-such a basic need and yet for far too long I was struggling with zooming in on areas covered with this bright red making the text under it barely available even under extra lighting that I had brought in. Thanks for knowing where the help could be found and also, the recommended order for going at this issue. This is SOLVED and closed. What a mess it was but happily it is in past. Bye, S
