I need to allow javascript in local (not Internet) html pages

I just recently made FireFox my default browser. I was using IE8. I have a set of local html pages I use as client help and some pages run javascript to set some time-sensitive values on the page. In IE8, I would always get a message "Internet Explorer restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls.", then I would click a button "Allow blocked content". In FireFox it simply does not run the javascript and I have found no options to override this behavior.

Note this is not running under http:, but file:.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - I really want to use FireFox all the time and not use IE8.
