I have background music playing which has started recently. I cannot watch news video for example because the background music makes it impossible to hear dialogue. I have tried safe mode and disabling extensions, etc., as per the suggestions.

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

== not sure...I just realized it last week when looking at a video on another site. I usually have sound off unless I'm watching a clip of something

Do you have any tabs open that can have a player active?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes). See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems
