Why is the ability to define a web address for a new tap part of Firefox?
It seems crazy that Firefox does not have the ability to set new tabs to be any URL that I want. Why do I have to install an extension to get this basic feature?

This FAQ does not appear to address my question. I don't want to edit what is on this default new tab page, I want to set define a URL of my choosing to be used when a new tab is opened.

Did you read this FAQ for Firefox browser. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/about-new-tab-page

You can at this extension on the Add-ons website.
It seems crazy that I would have to add an extension to achieve something so basic as to define what website a new tab goes to. Each extension you add is a potential source for loss of privacy. So I view it as very negative that I have to add an extension for something so basic and trivial.
