I normally have my bookmarks showing to the left of the main window. I have many, in various header categories like medical, games, finance, etc. Recently I was doing some and wanted to close the bookmarks to give me more room for the main page. I THINK I did it very easily with a right click and close folder or some such thing. Worked great. I got to have more of my display to show on the page.

I am now incredibly frustrated that I can't get them back. I have done research and tried to follow the directions but can't get it to work. I have found Bookmark Tools and Options and I have "always show" checked. But I can't get my bookmarks back to the left of the main page where I can easily go to where I want to go.

I need help! Please. Very frustrating.

Chosen solution

I think the key term you needed to find the answer is "sidebar."

On Windows, Ctrl+B should open and close the Bookmarks Sidebar. But some pages do intercept Ctrl+B for other purposes, so you may need to do it on a built-in page.

Success?

Ref. Use the Firefox Sidebar to access bookmarks, history and synced tabs

Some more info:

"Ctrl+B" is the keyboard shortcut to toggle the Bookmarks Sidebar.
"Ctrl+Shift+B" is the keyboard shortcut to toggle the Bookmarks Toolbar.
"Ctrl+Shift+O" is the keyboard shortcut to Open the Library.

You can drag the Bookmarks Menu button that shows the bookmarks in a drop-down list from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar. This Bookmarks Menu button has a "View bookmarks sidebar" menu item.

See "How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?"

THANK YOU! I can't believe how simple that was, but I have my bookmarks showing.

You can use the menu at the right end of the toolbar, or Ctrl+N, or show the classic File menu temporarily with Alt+F, but if you prefer a persistent menu bar (File, Edit, View...), check out: Restore the Menu bar in Firefox.
