Hello,

I believe the following to be a deficiency in Privacy and Security settings under 'Clear History when Firefox Closes' is selected.

My Environment: Windows 10 Pro (21H2 Os Build: 19044.2130), Firefox 106.0.1 Note: This problem/issue has been present for many versions prior to the versions listed.

Problem Description: Under Settings - Privacy and Security - History, I have Clear history when Firefox closes selected. When I restart Firefox and check History under the Menu bar there is no History as one would expect.

However, I also have dragged the Firefox icon down to the Windows Task bar and use that icon as a shortcut to start Firefox in both normal and private modes. The issue here is upon right clicking that icon there is a huge list of previous websites listed under 'Recent'. If you have the settings described above there should be NO history showing. This is a significant Privacy issue and should be covered when the above settings are selected.

So, this should be corrected in a future update. In the meantime where does one go to delete this cache of saved websites for Firefox.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

There are browser.taskbar.lists prefs on the about:config page that determine what to show in this jump list.

Setting browser.taskbar.lists.enabled to false removes everything from the jump list. Setting browser.taskbar.lists.tasks.enabled to false just removes the tasks (leaves the history).

  • browser.taskbar.lists.enabled
  • browser.taskbar.lists.frequent.enabled
  • browser.taskbar.lists.recent.enabled
  • browser.taskbar.lists.tasks.enabled

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately none of these settings affect the list showing under 'Recent'. I went into the about:config and:

  1. browser.taskbar.lists.recent.enabled was set to false - I would think this setting alone would not let any entries under 'Recent'. But I have them.
  2. browser.taskbar.lists.enabled I set to 'false' - and no change. Right clicking on the icon in the task bar shows everything. And this is after I restart Firefox.

Is there a way to clear the cache for Recent?
