ongoing firefox default dl failure
I have noticed for several months now that Firefox NO LONGER downloads to the selected default folder - DOWNLOADS. Evidently this is another area where firefox broke something while fixing something else that likely wasn't broke.
I have the default download folder set to DOWNLOADS but firefox no longer does it that way. Instead, it defaults to the last folder to which I downloaded something and otherwise ignores the default setting.

Perhaps you could check Settings > General > Files and applications > Downloads. Have you selected Always ask you where to save files?
You could ask check the following preference in about:config. For what you want it should be set to true. browser.download.useDownloadDir

WARNING from the moderator team: Changing Firefox pref from the about:config page can sometimes break Firefox or cause strange behavior. You should only do this if you know what you're doing.

That browser.download.useDownloadDir was set to FALSE. I changed it to TRUE so that should fix the problem. Thanks.
well, today I downloaded a file from my bank and, despite having set the usedownloaddir to true - it still tried to send the file to the last folder I used which was NOT download. I checked and it is still set to true and the settings still says to use downloads by default.
The solution does not seem to have worked. Oh well. Guess I'll just have to pay closer attention and FORCE the dl to go to that folder. To that end I have set the flag for always ask.
Thanks all the same for your help. It is appreciated.
What about the setting Always ask ... ? If you want to invite further answers you should unmark the question as solved and, to improve the chances of a reply, reply again after this reply of mine. I have seen a similar report which, at the time I saw it, was unresolved.

You could check that the preference has not been changed back to false by an extension or some software on your system.
yes. Of course I should have done that. I have set Always Ask but haven't had a new dl to test yet.
No, that's an alternative. Do not select that.
