Using govt EFTPS to make payroll deposits. Cannot log in. Their "Help" says cannot use SSLB3. Must use CLS 1.1 or CLS 1.2 I have absolutely NO idea what they are talking about.

I don't have an IT department. I'm computer illiterate, and all these acronyms are confusing to an old lady. Can anyone put this in 'people' talk?

I think you may have typos. What you probably mean are sslv3 and tls 1.1 and 1.2. I don't know why those are not already enforced in your browser. Am I correct?

I guess that is what I mean. How do I get the tls 1.1 or 1.2 to work?

You have to open a page called about:config. This article tells you how.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/about-config-editor-firefox

When you see the box with Search preference name, just type tls there. You will see a list of preferences. I am attaching a screenshot showing the three you need (your colours will be different); they will probably be at the bottom of the list, as mine are. You should already have the values shown in my screenshot (4,4,3). What do you have?

TLS 1.2 should work automatically without any changes. If a site does NOT support TLS 1.2 -- for example, an older less secure site -- then you might need to enable TLS 1.1. But for your payroll site, that seems unlikely.

Hard to check https://www.eftps.gov/ right now because it says "This Web site is temporarily unavailable due to regularly scheduled maintenance."

I use the EFTPS website to make Form 1042 withholding payments. I followed Terry's instructions, and my computer matches the screenshot Terry provided. Does that mean I have either TLS 1.1 or 1.2?

Thanks.

Yes. So can you provide a screenshot of what you see when you try to make withholding payments?
