Firefox won't load any pages at all (no error message, just unresponsive)

I got a new PC and installed Firefox, synced with my account. Everything worked fine for a few days but then it became unresponsive, in the sense that it won't try to load any pages at all. I uninstalled it completely and did a refresh but it is still the same - attached is a screenshot of the brand new copy, where it won't even load the welcome info. Entering a URL and hitting Enter does nothing at all. It's totally unusable and I have no idea what else to try! Anyone have this issue?

Sorry to hear about this problem.

Sometimes program installers and uninstallers mess with certain shared Microsoft files, and in particular, moving or removing the shared VCRUNTIME140_1.DLL file. That can cripple Firefox.

To rule out that issue, you can (re)run Microsoft's installer for the VC Runtime files:

(A) Open https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-160#visual-studio-2015-2017-2019-and-2022

(B) In the "Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022" section of the article, download the installer for your system:

  • 64-bit Windows: the "X64" download
  • 32-bit Windows: the "X86" download

(C) Run that installer and restart Windows.

Any improvement?
