Task manager shows 7 instances of Firefox, 1 tab open, PC unusable

This has happened before, but not always quite as many as the 7 instances that showed this time in Task Manager (when I can eventually get it to run). What is happening here. I'm on my mainpage (one tab open) and,ok, this time I was on FB watching videos and the computer just eventually froze. -Seven- ??? instances of FF???
