One of the computer forums suggested refreshing Firefox. After that and some reconstruction the dreaded jackyhillty malware / virus (I don't know which) was gone.

That was very good work. Well Done. Please flag your

. . . . Unfortunately so where my extensions ............

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.

Hi Ray, what do you mean by "following me around"? Is it a tab that keeps opening when you visit certain sites, or at random intervals, or ?? What's the pattern, as best you can discern.

Hi J ...... I can only see it in No Script (it's always there) so I marked it as untrusted. I thought it might be malware or spyware. Doesn't seem to do anything. Just creepy. Thanks, Ray

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

The answer above did not exactly solve the problem. I had to do a lot of reading. One of the computer forums suggested refreshing Firefox. After that and some reconstruction the dreaded jackyhillty malware / virus (I don't know which) was gone. Unfortunately so where my extensions ............ I do have another question: Is there something that will take the place of java script. I've mostly seen negative comments about it. An add on would be nice, but that would be too easy for non programmers like me. To be honest I really don't know what java script does.

Below this it says (or asks) "Needs more information". There's lot of room on this page to explain that. It's a little puzzling.

Don't worry about it.

JavaScript provides functionality on websites. Most sites use JavaScript for some features, and some will not load without it (they just display a spinner). So JavaScript is essential and you will not enjoy the web if you completely disable Firefox from running it. But you may want to block sketchy sources of scripts, and there are lots of options. It is easier to think about what sites are doing that you don't like than about the exact mechanism of how they do it.
