Shows saved password but not username

On many websites FF does not show the saved username like it would show the password. I'm a web developer. How can I make Firefox show the saved username hint? I have seen this working correctly at the Twitter login, for example, but I don't spot any difference. Is Twitter using some JS to make that happen?
